‘Octonocular’ Shows Creativity of New College’s Thesis Students in Art
Octonocular is the phenomenon of having eight eyes. For the New College of Florida Art Department this year, it means the unique perspectives of eight of its graduating seniors featured in the 2015 Senior Thesis Exhibition.
The College will open its doors to the public April 13 through May 18 for a viewing of these students’ studio highlights. Featuring paintings, drawings, sculptures, videos, and installations, this culminating event surveys the students’ final year of intensive study, centered on a single body of artwork.
“This year’s exceptional selection of artwork demonstrates creative ingenuity exemplified by the synthesis of historical and new genres, technical mastery, and an unexpected juxtaposition of materials and stylistic traditions,” said Kim Anderson, associate professor of art at New College.
Participating artists include Isabelle DuVall, Coral Chepren-Moore, Samantha Kreeger, Jennifer Ng, Paige Rawitz, Jeanine Tatlock, Wesley Thorp and Rachael Zucker.
The public is invited to a reception for the artists from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, May 8, in the College’s Isermann Gallery, behind Sainer Pavilion on Bay Shore Road. The reception is generously supported by MLC & Associates of Merrill Lynch Sarasota.
The gallery and exhibit will be open to visitors Monday through Friday, noon to 5:00 p.m., from April 13 through May 18.
