Bicycle and pedestrian safety meeting planned

SARASOTA COUNTY – Sarasota County transportation officials will host an open house on Monday, March 23, 3-6 p.m., at the Plantation Golf and Country Club Library in Venice to discuss bicycle and pedestrian safety.
The meeting is an effort to educate bicyclists and pedestrians about roadway safety. For instance, riding against traffic on roadways accounts for ten percent of all crashes involving cyclists, while failure to yield at stop signs causes up to 11 percent of all cycle crashes.
Other information, such as the importance of using safety equipment while cycling at night, and the laws and regulations governing cycling will also be discussed.
The open house will provide a forum to learn about safety and the current status of the roadways and sidewalks, and input will also be gathered on proposed improvements and their locations.
The meeting will be held in the Plantation Golf and County Club’s Library, 500 Rockley Blvd, Venice, FL 34293, from 3-6 p.m.
