James Levine Conducts Verdi’s Early Masterpiece Ernani,
With Plácido Domingo in His First-Ever Performances of Don Carlo
In addition to the longtime collaborators, who first performed at the Met together in 1971, the opera stars Francesco Meli in the title role, Angela Meade as Elvira, and Dmitri Belosselskiy as de Silva
New York, NY (March 19, 2015) – Met Music Director James Levine will conduct his first company performances of Verdi’s early opera Ernani in more than 30 years, with Plácido Domingo in his role debut in the baritone part of Don Carlo. Italian tenor Francesco Meli sings the title role of the bandit Ernani, with American soprano Angela Meade in one of her most acclaimed roles, Elvira. Ukrainian bass Dmitri Belosselskiy will make his Met role debut as de Silva, Ernani’s rival. The seven-performance revival opens March 20 and runs through April 11.
