Murray Perahia begins tour in Arizona
Distinguished pianist Murray Perahia performed in Sonoma on March 7 to a very pleased crowd who received his performance with multiple standing ovations. His fast-paced, energetic recital at Sonoma State University – the first in his 2015 North American tour – was an inspiring one for newcomers, including Sonoma State student Greg Conner.
I’ve never seen a pianist in concert before… It was quite the experience to see Perahia perform with such passion, energy and grace.
Longtime Perahia fans are excited about his current program, the same he’ll be using for his March 18 appearance in Kalamazoo. It’s been called “an outstanding arrangement,” a compilation that “spans the joyful buoyancy of Bach and Haydn, the serious depths of Beethoven and Cesar Franck, and the virtuosic heights of Frederic Chopin.” The Arizona Daily Star calls the opening half of the program “a jolly launch” while the second half grows excitedly darker.
It’s rare to see a concert and emerge feeling like you have been exposed to some of the greatest works in the piano repertoire by names that read like classical music’s ‘Composers Who’s Who.’ |
