A Note From Your Artistic Directors
Three Challenging Florida Premieres Are Set to Take The Stage
Dearest friends, patrons and supporters,
It gives us a tremendous amount of pride to announce Urbanite’s first series of plays below, and eagerly await Sarasota audiences having the opportunity to experience these refreshing works. After careful consideration, we have chosen three playwrights whose works will challenge you, start conversations, and bring innovative voices to relevant, daring subject matters. The season has been covered generously by the Herald-Tribune, the Bradenton Times, This Week in Sarasota, and the Observer.
During the last few months, the two of us have been fervently assembling a creative team, outfitting the theater, and most importantly, raising funds. At this time last year, neither of us could have imagined the amount of intangibles and surprises we would have encountered along the way, nor the overwhelming amount of support that would have come our way from the community. Your donations have made this possible. And they’ve certainly humbled us.
At this time, Urbanite Theatre has raised an astonishing $50,000 from dozens of supporters. We’re poised to cover all of our start-up costs, and the initial costs of our first production. However, along the way we’ve encountered surprise expenses, from inflated insurance quotes to added union expenses, and myriad of surprises in between. Though we aren’t in financial jeopardy of missing our opening, we have perilously thin margins and no savings.
It would give us tremendous stability to enter production next month with a modest financial reserve. As it stands, we have no room for error or extra expenses.
Please consider giving the gift of theater to this community by donating today.
The stakes have never been higher, and we need your tax-deductible support more than ever.
With love and gratitude,
Summer & Brendan |
