THREE NEW ARTISTS, THREE DIVERSE TALENTS
NOW ON DISPLAY IN THE PLAYERS THEATRE ART GALLERY
Sarasota, FL- The Players Theatre isn’t just about moving musicals and gripping plays for everyone—The Players Theatre supports ALL visual and performing arts! Every month, to coincide with each current Broadway production, every single wall of the theatre is adorned with stunning visual art created by local and nationally renowned artists and carefully curated by Gallery Coordinator Judy Nadler. The work of many of the participating artists has been seen in area high-end galleries, art shows and exhibitions. We’re proud and honored to display their artwork for all to see. The artists will hold a Meet & Greet on February 11 at 6:30– the preview night of the upcoming Broadway musical Violet—with its correlating themes of self-image, personal discovery and destination of journey. Come in and browse this month’s artists, which include stunning portraits, amazing mixed media wall sculptures and breathtaking photography. You even have the opportunity to purchase your favorite piece! The current artists are:
Dirce Kennedy: Growing up in the south of Brazil, the land of the gaucho, Dirce’s interest and passion for art began at 2 years old when her artist father first gave her drawing materials. Her education took a different direction when Dirce’s other passion, social science, took precedence for an extended period of time. During the last 7 years, Dirce has fully embraced her art–back to classes: drawing, painting first in Los Angeles, then since mid 2011 in Sarasota, FL. Dirce now seeks to honor nature by capturing an individual’s deepest beauty, their layers of life, their inner spirit, their true self–through her instruments of paint, brush and canvas. Since 2011, Dirce’s paintings have been exhibited in over 50 juried shows including at the Art Center Sarasota, The Uptown Gallery in Sarasota, The Manatee Art Center, The Venice Art Center, Ringling College’s Englewood Art Center and Ringling College’s Longboat Key Center for The Arts.
Gwendolyn Fryer: Fryer was born in Paris in 1957. In conjunction with her father’s discoveries as a petroleum geophysicist, she traveled throughout Europe and North Africa and spent most of her formative years in Tripoli, Libya. Fryer graduated from the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts and was the Academy’s first exchange student to attend the L’Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris. She currently lives in Sarasota, Florida and has been featured in solo and group exhibitions in museums and cultural centers throughout the United States and abroad; The Renwick Gallery of the National Museum of American Art, the Museum of Fine Arts in Tallahassee, Florida, the Selby Gallery of the Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota, Florida, the American Legation Museum in Tangiers, Morocco and the Archevecher in Paris, to name a few.
Vicki Thompson-Jones: Vicki’s interest in photography has many influences, starting at an early age. Her parents were immersed in the arts and decorated their home with prints by Picasso, Matisse, Van Gogh, El Greco, and Gauguin. This exposure taught her to recognize their styles and use of color and composition. She also studied piano at a young age and was drawn not only to the music but to the patterns and textures of the printed page of symbols and markings. This led her to also find a connection with repetitive patterns, textures and rhythms in the built environment. Her obsession with photography began in her late 30s during travel to France, motivated by her interest in architecture. Years later, she began photography classes to learn the basics of using a camera, “a journey which will continue as long as she can hold a camera.” This past year, she was rewarded with winning first place in the Scenic Category of the 34th Annual Juried Photographic Exhibition at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens.
All Artists works will be showing from January 26th– March 1st
The Players Gallery Mission is to be an inclusive Showcase venue for Sarasota’s visual arts community and to actively engage local artisans of all calibers and mediums. Local artist and art teacher, Judy Nadler has been the Gallery Coordinator and Curator since its inception in 2008.
