Laurel Park to host movies, programs
in celebration of Black History Month

 

SARASOTA COUNTY – The county’s Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources department and the Laurel Civic Association, Inc., will partner to offer a variety of activities to the community in celebration of February’s Black History Month at the Sandra Sims Terry Community Center located within Laurel Park at 509 Collins Road in Laurel.

 

Enjoy an open house, Feb. 2-13, and view a variety of historic pictures and information during normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday-Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday.

 

The Laurel Civic Association, Inc., will host a round table discussion and dinner at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5. Enjoy an old-fashioned southern dinner as you listen to members of the local community tell life stories about the history of their families and the community. This event is free to attend.

 

Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources will host a double feature movie on Thursday, Feb. 12. The scheduled movies are “The Help” at 11:30 a.m. followed by “Bamboozled” at 2 p.m.  The movies and popcorn are provided free of charge. Children must be accompanied and supervised by an adult.
