(Sarasota, FL) Florida Studio Theatre’s Bowne’s Lab is the next tour stop for ImprovBoston on February 8, 2015. The laughs begin at 4pm with a workshop called Musical Improv for Beginners, taught by this creative comedic cast. The laughs get even louder at 7:30pm in Bowne’s Lab as these funny four perform a short-form show heavy on the musical comedy. Single tickets are $15 for the evening performance, $25 for the workshop, or $30 for both. Tickets may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org.

Blending skillful storytelling, memorable music, audience participation, and joyful chaos, Boston’s best improvisers create a show that redefines itself with every performance. Hailed by the Boston Globe as “Comedy Masters,” ImprovBoston is certainly no stranger to Sarasota. Having performed sold out shows in the Sarasota Improv Festival since it’s inception, this hilarious troupe returns to turn up the music and the laughs. ImprovBoston’s Artistic Director Mike Descoteaux is joined by fellow cast members Deana Criess, Ben Scurria, and Brian Agosta.

Descoteaux previous credits include Musical Director of the off-Broadway show, Blank the Musical. He took over the role of Artistic Director from FST’s current Director of Improvisation, Will Luera. Luera speaks to the anticipation of this comedic reunion stating, “I am really happy to have my old theater performing at FST. ImprovBoston has gone from being a small theater in Boston to one with national and global notoriety. It’s my goal to grow FST Improv to the same extent as ImprovBoston. I also think it says a lot about FST and our audience base that a theater like ImprovBoston makes Sarasota a stop on their Florida tour. We are truly privileged to have them teach and perform at our theater.”

Founded in 1982, by Ellen Holbrook, a former student of Chicago’s famed Second City, ImprovBoston is an artistic fixture in the local Boston theatre scene. With over 20 shows per week, and an annual enrollment of nearly 2000 students in their Comedy School, ImprovBoston is New England’s biggest comedy theater and training ground. As finalists in the 2014 Best of Boston Awards, ImprovBoston takes over Bowne’s Lab for this exciting night of musical comedy and uncontrollable laughter.

Don’t miss this award-winning comedy troupe as they bring the audience to tears – of laughter of course. It all begins at 4pm with Musical Improv for Beginners taught by the cast themselves and continues on at 7:30pm in Bowne’s Lab with an evening performance of short-form musical comedy. Single tickets are $15 for the evening performance, $25 for the workshop, or $30 for both. Tickets may be purchased from the FST Box Office in person, by phone at (941) 366-9000, or online at FloridaStudioTheatre.org.

About Florida Studio Theatre

Known as Sarasota’s Contemporary Theatre, Florida Studio Theatre was founded in 1973 by Jon Spelman. Starting out as a small touring company, FST traveled to places such as migrant camps and prisons. The company then acquired the former Woman’s Club building, becoming the first permanent venue. Shortly after Richard Hopkins arrived, the building was purchased and renamed The Keating Theatre. In the years that followed, Florida Studio Theatre established itself as a major force in American Theatre, presenting contemporary theatre in its five theatre venues: the Keating Theatre,  the Gompertz Theatre, the Parisian style Goldstein Cabaret and John C. Court Cabaret,  and Bowne’s Lab Theatre.

Even with its growth, Florida Studio Theatre remains firmly committed to making the arts accessible and affordable to a broad-based audience.  FST develops theatre that speaks to our living, evolving, and dynamically changing world.  As FST grows and expands, it continues to provide audiences with challenging, contemporary drama and innovative programs.
