 Carnegie Hall presents the esteemed pianist Richard Goode in four concerts this winter and spring, beginning with two programs of chamber music in Zankel Hall, featuring performances with young musicians mentored by Mr. Goode at the Marlboro Music Festival. On Sunday, February 22 at 3:00 p.m., Mr. Goode is joined by soprano Sarah Shafer, violinist Itamar Zorman, violist Kyle Armbrust, and cellist Brook Speltz for a program to include Brahms’s Piano Quartet No. 2 in A Major, Op. 26 and Schumann’s Piano Trio No. 2 in F Major, Op. 80. Pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute joins Mr. Goode, Mr. Zorman, Mr. Armbrust, and Ms. Speltz on Thursday, March 26 at 7:30 p.m. for an all-French program with works by Debussy, Fauré, and Ravel.
Mr. Goode, a former Carnegie Hall Perspectives artist and one of today’s leading interpreters of Classical and Romantic music, teaches a public master class for young pianists exploring Debussy’s Preludes presented by Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute on Friday, March 27 at 5:00 p.m. in the Resnick Education Wing.
The pianist returns to Carnegie Hall in April for two programs in Stern Auditorium / Perelman Stage. On Wednesday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m., Mr. Goode plays Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat Major, K. 595 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and Music Director Andris Nelsons, followed by a solo recital on Friday, April 24 at 8:00 p.m. featuring works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Debussy, and Schumann. About the Artist
Hailed for music-making of tremendous emotional power, depth, and sensitivity, Richard Goode is acknowledged as one of today’s master musicians and one of the leading interpreters of works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Mozart, and Schubert. Mr. Goode probes the inner reaches of works by any composer, infusing every measure with the utmost expressivity, making his musicianship an exciting combination of grandness and humility, boldness, and depth—“the boldness of the mind, the depth of the heart.” His first recording of the five Beethoven concertos, with the Budapest Festival Orchestra and Iván Fischer for the Nonesuch label, joins his acclaimed Beethoven sonatas set as definitive interpretations of this repertoire. His memorable Mozart concerto recordings with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra received similar praise. Mr. Goode recently played the Schumann Concerto with Orpheus at Carnegie Hall and on tour for the orchestra’s 40th Anniversary.
