LA MUSICA CELEBRATES ITS 29TH ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL CHAMBER MUSIC FESTIVAL WITH “THINGS NEW”

Sarasota, FL (January 26, 2015) – The critically acclaimed La Musica International Chamber Music Festival announces its 29th season this upcoming April 4-15, 2015, in Sarasota. This year’s theme is entitled “Things New.”

One of the highlights of this year’s festival is the world premiere of a new composition written by Sarasota resident Jerry Bilik. Mr. Bilik is renowned for his work on popular shows such as “Charlie’s Angels” and “Disney On Ice”, as well as for his M Fanfare for the Michigan Marching Band. His composition, “String Quartet in Modus Lascivus”, is dedicated to the achievements of La Musica and its artistic director Bruno Giuranna. Other new elements in 2015 include new combinations of instruments, a new artist, violinist Claudio Cruz from Brazil, and a new program, “Simply Sonatas at Sainer,” which brings to focus the great chamber musicians of La Musica as individuals. This “Come as you are” program is the perfect introduction to chamber music for new audiences.

La Musica president Sally Faron, says, “This season offers audiences the opportunity to explore chamber music from different perspectives. How, for example, some disapproving medieval monks gave rise a millennium later to a new direction in modern composing, or how adding a non-traditional chamber instrument can create an entirely new atmospheric, and how hearing these brilliant musicians in solo mode helps explain the beauty of their chamber performances.”

Another part of the annual festival has been its community outreach program. For the past 18 years, La Musica has collaborated with local schools to introduce and engage students in chamber music and the various instruments. In 2015, for the first time the musicians of La Musica will perform a piano trio composed by local student Nicholas Murphy, a sophomore at Out-of-Door Academy and an intern at La Musica. The piano trio will be part of the April 12 matinee program at the Sarasota Opera House performed by La Musica musicians Derek Han, piano, Federico Agostini, violin, and Julie Albers, cello. The program will be recorded along with subsequent interviews and become part of the EdExploreSRQ offerings in the following year,
