DEBUTED TO 50,000 MUSIC FANS
NOVEMBER 15 AND 16
AT MAKUHARI MESSE
50,000 music fans were on hand for the inaugural, sold-out KNOTFEST JAPAN this past weekend (November 15 and 16) at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo. Presented by Japanese promoter Hayashi International Promotion (H.I.P.), Slipknot and 5B Artist Management, KNOTFEST’s first international showing featured headlining performances from Slipknot, .5: The Gray Chapter, the band’s latest release which recently entered the charts in Japan at #1.
KNOTFEST JAPAN featured headlining sets from Slipknot (both Saturday and Sunday), along with sets from more than 20 acts throughout the weekend. Limp Bizkit, Papa Roach, Lamb of God were on the Saturday bill, while Sunday’s line-up included Korn, Trivium, In Flames and Five Finger Death Punch, among others.
SLIPKNOT–who performed at last year’s H.I.P.-produced Ozzfest which drew capacity crowds and wide critical acclaim–not only served as the headliners for KNOTFEST JAPAN, but they were involved in every aspect of the event. Beyond curating the music and on-site activities at KNOTFEST JAPAN, SLIPKNOT turned Makuhari Messe arena into a truly twisted carnival experience like only SLIPKNOT can–with big-top tents, festival games and photo booths.
“Music has always been a very important part of my life. Knotfest Japan was the single most beautiful experience of my career,” says Shawn “Clown” Chrahan of Slipknot. “The shows were like surrealistic paintings. Both shows have truly changed my life and brought me even closer to the fans, Slipknot and myself. No words can express my feelings; therefore, all I can say is thank you. Slipknot loves Japan and will always return. We are all blessed to have music and each other in this thought process known as life. Much love to the Japanese people. We love you.”
“Slipknot had a very specific vision for Knotfest and it was incredible to see that vision come to life,” said Cory Brennan, President, 5B Artist Management. “Knotfest Japan was a fantastic experience for all involved and sets the bar for future rock festivals in Japan. Our partners at H.I.P. couldn’t have been better, taking the band’s input on all elements of the festival, and literally making it a reality.”
“SLIPKNOT is beloved by the Japanese fans so to bring them back to Japan for their own festival was an honor,” said H.I.P. Promoter Kaori Hayashi. “Having sold out both days of the festival, instantly, they proved Japan to be the best country to debut KNOTFEST outside of the United States. They have a strong understanding of and appreciation for the country.”
