Choo makes presentation at Korean Society of Dallas headquarters

Arlington, Texas—Texas Rangers outfielder Shin-Soo Choo has made a $100,000.00 donation towards the construction of a new Korean Cultural Center of Dallas.

Choo made the donation at a presentation at the Korean Society of Dallas headquarters last Friday afternoon, October 3. Also participating were Korean Society of Dallas President Jimmy An; Korean Cultural Center of Dallas President John Chong; the Head of Mission of the Consular Office of the Republic of Korea in Dallas Dong Chan Kim; and a number of other leaders from the local Korean American community.

“Our Korean heritage is very important to me and my family,” said Choo, who signed with the Rangers as a free agent in December 2013. “I am honored to contribute for the creation and building of a facility where the beauty and wonder of our traditional holidays and festivals can be shared with and experienced by our children and also be a place where the Korean language can be taught to generations of individuals.”

Choo, who was an amateur baseball star in Korea before signing with the Seattle Mariners in August 2000, ranks first among MLB Korean natives in all offensive categories.

Land acquisition for the new Korean Cultural Center of Dallas is currently in progress with the hope of beginning construction on the project in the next several months.

Choo’s donation was disbursed through the Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation, which has a mission of improving the lives of children in need within our community and providing funding for youth in crisis, youth health initiatives, youth baseball programs, and youth education.
