Star Bass René Pape Performs Solo Recital on the Met Stage

September 28 at 4 p.m.

German bass René Pape will take the Met stage on Sunday, September 28 at 4 p.m. for his first solo recital with the company. Together with pianist Camillo Radicke, Pape will perform a diverse program of works by Beethoven, Dvořák, Quilter, and Mussorgsky. Pape, who stars this fall as Banquo in Verdi’s Macbeth and Sarastro in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte, is one of the Met’s leading stars; he has sung 22 roles with the company since his 1992 debut. Most recently, he sang Gurnemanz in a new production of Wagner’s Parsifal and Méphistophélès in a new production of Gounod’s Faust.

The program for the recital will feature works sung in four languages, including Beethoven’s six-song Gellert-Lieder cycle; Dvořák’s Biblical songs, Op. 99; Quilter’s Three Shakespeare Songs; and Mussorgsky’s Songs and Dances of Death.
