Backyard Sterilization Program
Spay Neuter
Cat Depot is pleased to announce it is the recipient of $25,000 from the Florida Animal Friend spay/neuter license plate grant. Funding will provide free spay/neuter for personal cats as part of Cat Depot’s Backyard Sterilization Program which covers zip codes 34234 and 34237. Recipients must meet government low income guidelines. Each spay/neuter will include a Rabies vaccine, flea treatment and microchip with a free lifetime registration.

To schedule an appointment, please call (941) 366-2404, extension 320, or email [email protected].

The targeted zip codes in Cat Depot’s own backyard are the second highest areas for impounds in Sarasota County. Unsterilized community and free-roaming cats are the greatest source of cat overpopulation. Spaying or neutering this group of cats will impact unwanted kittens and move us one step closer to resolving our overpopulation problem.

Qualifying residents will also be able to receive food from Cat Depot’s Community Food Bank and needed supplies for their cats.

Long-Term Resident Finds Her Forever Home
Operation Adopt Me - the story of a shelter cat
Operation Adopt Me – the story of Dottie

Prior to coming to Cat Depot, Dottie spent two years in another shelter. She came to Cat Depot when she was three years old. That was over two years ago. That means that the diminutive five year old with the trademark black dot on her nose spent the majority of her life inside the walls of animal shelters.

In April of this year, Dottie began her crusade to find a loving home. For 18 weeks she told her story and entertained her followers with her attempts to get noticed. It was a long journey filled with new hobbies, “bug” hunting, modeling, supervising, 911 phone call attempts and a new pen pal. Dottie even challenged her readers to either adopt her, or donate to Cat Depot in her D.A.M.N. (Dottie’s Adopt Me Now) Campaign.
Last week, Dottie’s dream finally came true; her forever parents came to take her home. Her mom and dad adopted another Cat Depot kitty a few years ago, and they also have one other cat. Dottie left Cat Depot to much fanfare and headed off with her family to meet her new brothers.

Lil’ Bub’s Big Fund Will Help Provide a Forever Home

Kirk Friends Like Me

Kirk is a loving 15-year-old diabetic kitty. Thanks to a generous grant from the ASPCA, Kirk has a chance to live out his golden years in a loving forever home.

Kirk’s condition requires daily insulin and a special diet that must be strictly adhered to. With the grant money, we will provide Kirk’s adoptive or foster family a year’s supply of insulin and his special diet food. With a consistent feeding and medication schedule in a stable home environment, Kirk can thrive in his forever home for many years.

If you want to help Kirk and can foster or adopt, please call 941-366-2404.
