Some Paths Lead Nowhere, Mixed Media, (30″x40″) by Janet Mishner
Links and Paths: Narrative Abstracts by Janet Mishner
After a summer hiatus, the gallery at The Women’s Resource Center of Sarasota will once again be filled with the works of local talent. Janet Mishner kicks off the new season with her October 2 opening, from 5-7pm in the Selby Room, 340 S Tuttle Ave., Sarasota. 941-366-1700. The public is invited and refreshments will be served. The show extends through November 20, 2014 and can be seen most weekdays from 10:30am to 4pm.
Titled “Links and Paths”, Janet’s work incorporates both narrative and abstract concepts dealing with choices, destinations, random events and trajectories. Her imagery looks at ways we relate to one another through intimacy, entanglement and detachment. It promises to be thought-provoking and relevant. “My painting allows me to indulge in two favorite subjects: psychology and art. The imagery in my work is sometimes a conscious idea that I want to express and other times it is what the marks or papers on the canvas suggest to me”, says the artist.
Janet has exhibited widely throughout Florida. Her work is included in both corporate and public collections, including the United States Embassy in Manilla. She was commissioned by the Susan G. Komen Foundation, Suncoast Affiliate and has won many awards, most recently the 2013 Juror’s Merit Award from the WCA Winter Juried Exhibition.
