RANGERS TRADE C GEOVANY SOTO TO OAKLAND ATHLETICS
IN EXCHANGE FOR CASH CONSIDERATIONS
Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers announced today that the club has traded catcher Geovany Soto to the Oakland Athletics in exchange for cash considerations.
Soto was scratched from today’s original starting lineup. The club’s projected Opening Day catcher, he appeared in just 10 games with the Rangers due to injuries, batting .237 (9-38) with one home run and 3 RBI. He missed three weeks during spring training after February 22 surgery to remove the os trigonum bone from his left ankle, was on the disabled list from Opening Day to July 16 following surgery to repair torn lateral meniscus cartilage in his right knee, and was also on the disabled list July 22-August 7 with a right groin strain.
With the trade of Soto, the Rangers have 39 players on the club’s 40-man roster.
