August 14, The Sarasota Ballet and Any Given Child invite you to The Bolger Playspace at The Ringling to enjoy some light bites and entertainment before experiencing Will Tickett’s full-length production of The Secret Garden.
Bringing to life Frances Hodgson Burnett’s popular children’s novel, this two-act dance-theatre production takes the stage of the FSU Center for the Performing Arts, August 8 through 16 in nine performances. The entire Tampa Bay Region will be given the opportunity to enjoy this light-hearted, family-friendly performance that not only features dancers, but showcases hand-crafted puppets and an on-stage actor who will narrate.
“Bringing to life this beloved children’s classic through dance, theatre and puppetry is sure to delight children and adults of all ages,” explained Mary Anne Servian, Managing Director of The Sarasota Ballet.
In conjunction with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts’ Any Given Child program and the curriculum department of Sarasota County Schools, The Sarasota Ballet’s production of The Secret Garden includes a strong educational outreach component, giving students the chance to learn through art.
Puppets from the producion will make an appearance as you play and nosh at Picnic and Play at the Ballet and all the proceeds will go to Any Given Child Sarasota.

Running through August 17, meet a rodeo girl, a lady giving birth, a snake handler, and even a woman who wants to live at McDonalds in Jane Martin’s Talking With… at the Players Theatre of Sarasota.
This winner of the American Theatre Critics Association Award boasts an extraordinary series of monologues dealing with the personal ordeals of 11 compelling female characters. From the very comical to the intensely emotional, each scene features a unique and often inspiring perspective that is shared with great insight, sensitivity, sadness and joy.

The Manatee Players‘ production of Disney’s Tarzan will be the area premier of this family friendly musical! Disney’s Tarzanopens at the Manatee Performing Arts Center and plays through August 24.
Based on Disney’s epic animated musical adventure and Edgar Rice Burrough’s Tarzan of the Apes, Tarzan features heart-pumping music by rock legend Phil Collins and a book by Tony Award-winning playwright, David Henry Hwang.
High-flying excitement and hits like the Academy Award winning “You’ll Be in My Heart” as well as “Son of Man” and “Two Worlds” make Tarzan an unforgettable theatrical experience.

Two iconic female performers are remembered and honored in song and story at Florida Studio Theatres Court Cabaret. The final show in FSTs Summer Sidekicks Series, Somewhere Over the Rose: The Songs and Stories of Judy Garland and Bette Midler, runs through August 31.
Paying tribute to the songs, styles, and stories of two women, this show captures all the classic spirit of Judy Garland with the fiery style of Bette Midler. Kathy Halenda returns to FST to bring a renewed existence to these legendary females. Featuring songs such as “Singin’ In The Rain,” “Wind Beneath My Wings,” and “From A Distance.”

The Glenridge Performing Arts Center is proud to presentMaria Wirries Takes Flight, produced by GPAC on August 9.
Maria Wirries, an extraordinarily talented young singer, has entertained audiences from the Sun Coast to the Amalfi Coast. Having performed in every major theatrical venue in Sarasota and debuted works by renowned composers, this will be Maria’s final concert in Sarasota before pursuing her BFA in Musical Theater at the highly competitive Penn State University.
Joining Maria in this program are her long-time accompanist and coach Alan Jay Corey and composer/recording artist Ben Hammond.
