The 2014-2015 year will feature renowned music faculty members and guest artists as well as blossoming student musicians, the concerts and recitals presented here reflect the highest quality in musical endeavors. WEST SIDE STORY tells the story of star-crossed lovers Tony and Maria as they struggle to rise above the hatred and intolerance that surrounds them. Soaring as the greatest love story of all time it remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. Bernstein’s score is considered to be one of Broadway’s finest and features such classics as Something’s Coming, Tonight, America, I Feel Pretty and Somewhere.
WEST SIDE STORY is based on a Conception of JEROME ROBBINS, Book by ARTHUR LAURENTS, Music by LEONARD BERNSTEIN, Lyrics by STEPHEN SONDHEIM. Entire Original Production Directed and Choreographed by JEROME ROBBINS. Originally Produced on Broadway by Robert E. Griffith and Harold S. Prince by Arrangement with Roger L. Stevens.

Halloween Spooktacular Concert and Trick or Treat
Friday, October 31 6:30 p.m. Neel Performing Arts Center
It’s tricks and treats with some ghostly musicians and spine tingling actors spreading a little Halloween cheer! Concert to begin at 6:30 p.m. followed by “trick or treat”.
General Admission: one canned food item to be donated to the Food Bank of Manatee County.
Master Class, John Fedchock, Jazz Trombonist
Wednesday, November 5 1 p.m. Neel Performing Arts Center
A world-class trombone soloist, heralded band leader, Grammy-nominated arranger and one of New York City’s premiere jazz artists will share his insights with SCF students in a Master Class. Schools and community members are invited to attend.

Thursday, November 13 8 p.m. Neel Performing Arts Center
Soprano Martha Lopez and pianist Lurray Myers will present an art song recital titled Traveling through Song. Embark on a musical adventure with us as we travel through the ages to discover different cultures, countries and people through song. No passport required!

Master Class, Klea Blackhurst, Actress/Soprano
Monday, November 17 1 p.m. Neel Performing Arts Center
Best known for Everything the Traffic Will Allow, her tribute to Ethel Merman, Klea Blackhurst has appeared on Broadway, television and concert stages worldwide. Blackhurst will share insights about performing while working with SCF students.
Presented in cooperation with Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota.

SCF Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra Concert
Music Festival on Jewish Themes

The Symphonic Band and Symphony Orchestra present a musical festival on Jewish themes to celebrate the rich musical heritage of our Jewish community. Music selections include Yiddish Dances, Kol Nidrei, Shamom!, the theme from Schindler’s List, Symphony No. 1: In Memoriam, Dresden, 1945; Israel: A Symphonic Poem by Palmetto composer Dan Ritz.

with Guest Artist Ann Knipschild, Organ

Please join Dr. Ann Knipschild, professor at Auburn University, and SCF faculty Dr. Felicia Brunelle in a performance of great music from baroque to contemporary for the violin and organ. Music by Vitali, Rheinberger, Gounod and others.
