Sérgio & Odair Assad are the most celebrated classical guitar duo in the world. Throughout their long career, Brazil’s renowned Assad Brothers have pushed musical boundaries, stirred the imagination and collaborated with the world’s greatest artists in classical, jazz and world music. For their 50th anniversary celebration, they return to the 92nd Street Y for an exclusive New York engagement in which they highlight their ongoing contributions to Brazilian music and culture. As part of a world tour, this concert will feature the works of Spanish and Brazilian classics. The Assad Brothers are joined by two of their favorite partners: clarinetist Paquito D’Rivera and violinist Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Benjamin Verdery, artistic director of 92Y’s Art of the Guitar series and chair of Yale’s guitar department, will give a free pre-concert talk at 7 pm. With special guests ALBENIZ Córdoba from Cantos de España, Op. 232 Tickets $25 (35 & Under), $50, $63 CONTACT!: “NEW MUSIC FROM ITALY” Monday, May 11, 7:30 PM The sixth season of CONTACT!, the New York Philharmonic’s new-music series, continues with its third and final concert at SubCulture, co-presented by 92Y: “New Music from Italy.” This concert features musicians from the New York Philharmonic performing a program of music of today from Italy including three premieres. The works represent different generations, regions and styles, from the legendary Luciano Berio to 30-year-old Vittorio Montalti, who won the Silver Lion at the 2010 Venice Biennale.
