412 Food Rescue Holds Second Food Distribution at Historic Fallingwater
The food rescue organization will distribute Farmers to Families food boxes to anyone in need at the historic site in the Laurel Highlands
PITTSBURGH, Pennsylvania (August 10, 2020) – On Wednesday, August 12, 412 Food Rescue will distribute fresh produce at the historic Fallingwater house in Mill Run, in the Laurel Highlands region of southwestern Pennsylvania. This distribution is open to anyone in need, and each household will receive a 25-pound box full of fresh produce from local donor Paragon Foods, available thanks to the USDA’s Farmers to Families Food Box Program.

Mass distributions like this, made possible by partners including the American Red Cross, which provides volunteers and logistics assistance, World Vision Pittsburgh and the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, are just one way 412 Food Rescue has adapted its strategies to support community members affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Since March, the nonprofit organization has welcomed more than 2,800 new volunteers on its mobile app, distributed over 24,000 meals to bus stops in the City of Pittsburgh, Sto-Rox School District, and McKeesport School District, and started a Home Delivery program that has distributed food boxes to more than 1,500 households in Pittsburgh and Beaver County.
“During the pandemic, we’re bringing the USDA’s Farmers to Families food boxes to our region’s highest-need communities,” says 412 Food Rescue Chief Operating Officer David Primm. “In the Laurel Highlands area, the tourism industry supports about 15,000 jobs, but pandemic-related closures, furloughs and travel restrictions have hit industry workers and business owners hard. Providing access to fresh food is an important way to support them and other affected members of this community.”
“As tourism and local businesses slowly restart, many families throughout our region are still navigating difficult financial times. Fallingwater and the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy are pleased to serve as a distribution site for 412 Food Rescue,” says Fallingwater Director Justin Gunther.
