New York, NY (June, 2019) – With the 10th Anniversary of the SOHO International Film Festival (SOHO IFF) occurring June 20th – 27th, this year’s schedule includes some of the best short and feature-length independent films from around the world, which will be shown at the historic Village East Cinemas – (189 2ND AVENUE NYC)
Opening night kicks off Thursday, June 20th with “Empty By Design”, written & directed by Andrea A. Walter and features Asian-American stars Chris Pang (Crazy Rich Asians), Dante Basco (Hook), Osric Chau (Supernatural) and known Filipino actors Madeleine Humphries & Rhian Ramos. Also showing is “Burning Bright”, a stylized, animated thriller produced in partnership between IMG Models and filmmaker Aaron Bierman. Inspired by noir classics like The Maltese Falcon and The Big Sleep, the film features the talents and likenesses of supermodels including Chanel Iman, and Elsa Hosk both scheduled to attend.
As a part of the 10th year celebration, SOHO IFF will celebrate films of socially conscious backgrounds.
“We had another record breaking submission year and an overwhelming alumni submission. Being our 10th year, we felt it important to celebrate independent filmmaking,” said SOHO IFF Executive Director & Head of Programming Sibyl Santiago. “We watched and rewatched many films to make sure we made the right decisions. As filmmakers, we know firsthand what hard work goes into making these films; often with little to no fiscal support… a true testament to an independent filmmaker who will do whatever it takes to create these gems.”
SOHO IFF closes its 10th year Thursday, June 27th with Tim Realbuto’s “Yes”, telling the story of washed up child star Patrick Nolan played by Nolan Gould (Modern Family). Other notable premieres include “You Go To My Head” a film by director Dimitri de Clercq, a documentary by legendary photographer Platon, “My Body Is Not A Weapon”, “Auggie” starring Richard Kind short films “Lillian” with Jonathan Fernandez (Lethal Weapon) & Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine-Nine), Michael Learned & John Wesley in “Second Acts”; Reed Birney & Billy Magnussen (Aladdin) in “W4M” and the world premiere of Daniel Keith’s “Love in Kilnerry” to name a few.
