NEW FOR 2016 AT CITI FIELD
FLUSHING, N.Y., March 30, 2016 – The New York Mets today unveiled a number of new entertainment and culinary offerings for the upcoming season during a “New for 2016 at Citi Field” media event. The Mets open their home schedule Friday, April 8 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies at 1:10 p.m.
The Mets unveiled the new full color LED Coca-Cola sign over the right field area that includes video capabilities. The 26ft x 84ft sign is one of the largest freeform displays in professional sports and the second largest in Major League Baseball. A complete Coca-Cola themed seating area in right field will be designated the Coca-Cola Corner. This area will have interactive fan elements such as a multiscreen gaming wall, virtual home run derby experience, live social media tracker and much more. The Mets and Coca-Cola Company have entered into a long-term agreement making Coca-Cola a Signature Partner.
FORD 5TH INNING
Ford’s partnership will control the top of the 5th inning at each home game with two new on field-promotions. The first new promotion will include a Ford truck driving through a centerfield entrance to perform a trivia contest with a randomly selected fan. The second will be a Ford Character race, incorporating vehicles iconic to the five boroughs of New York including FDNY Frankie, NYPD Petey, Louie the Limo and Tammy the Taxi. Interested parties can track race highlights, personal bios and overall season long standings on mets.com\ford. Tri State Ford and the Mets have entered into a partnership starting this summer.
Nikon will have several interactive ballpark locations. The primary activation space, located on the field level concourse, offers fans the opportunity to interact with Nikon’s latest camera technology and experience exclusive behind the scenes Mets content and imagery. Five scenic areas, designated as ‘Nikon Photo Spots’, will be located throughout Citi Field providing opportunities for fans to capture and share ballpark memories on CitiVision by using #NikonMets.
CITI PERK PATROL
Citi Perk Patrol will entertain fans in-between innings to enhance the in-game experience with their high energy and t-shirt cannons. To celebrate the new season, longtime Mets partner Citi has teamed with The 7 Line and the Mets to create an exclusive new t-shirt that will only be available through Citi Perk Patrol.
FREE SHIRT FRIDAYS
2016 will also feature the return of the popular Free Shirt Fridays beginning on Friday, April 29 vs. the San Francisco Giants presented by 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. Free Shirt Fridays are for all fans in attendance.
SATURDAY POSTGAME CONCERTS
This season’s postgame concerts include multi-platinum pop-artist Andy Grammer on Saturday, June 18 following the 8:15 p.m. game vs. the Atlanta Braves and legendary rock artists Styx on Saturday, August 13 following the 7:10 p.m. game vs. the San Diego Padres.
A fireworks display will follow the April 9 game vs. the Philadelphia Phillies at 7:10 p.m., the July 2 game vs. the Chicago Cubs at 7:15 p.m. and the September 3 game vs. the Washington Nationals at 7:10 p.m.
Family Sundays will feature free interactive kids inflatables, face painters and balloon artists on the Mets Plaza before the game to entertain families. Giveaways presented to the first 15,000 fans, and the Mr. Met Dash, where kids 12 and under can run the bases after the game.
1986 CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND CELEBRATION
The Mets will celebrate the 30th anniversary of their 1986 World Championship Memorial Day Weekend May 27-29 vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers. Friday, May 27, all fans in attendance will receive a 1986 World Championship themed t-shirt. The Mets have invited all players from the 1986 championship team along with Manager Davey Johnson and staff to be a part of the pregame on-field ceremony on Saturday, May 28. The first 15,000 fans in attendance at the game Sunday, May 29 will receive a 1986 World Championship replica ring.
MIKE PIAZZA JERSEY RETIREMENT WEEKEND CELEBRATION
The Mets will celebrate Hall of Famer Mike Piazza’s career during the weekend of July 29-31 when they host the Colorado Rockies. All fans in attendance Friday, July 29 will receive a Mike Piazza replica jersey. The Mets will retire Piazza’s #31 in a pre-game on-field retirement ceremony July 30 at 6:15 p.m. The first 15,000 fans to arrive at the game on Sunday, July 31 will receive a Mike Piazza Bobblehead.
The event included an exclusive tasting experience of the best culinary talent and menu offerings at Citi Field for the 2016 season. Highlights included two brand new additions to the Citi Field culinary lineup: Fuku from Chef David Chang, which served its spicy fried chicken sandwich and cookies from Christina Tosi’s Milk Bar. Also featured was Papa Rosso, a new pizza counter by Danny Meyer’s Union Square Hospitality Group as well as new mouthwatering selections from Shake Shack, Blue Smoke, El Verano Taqueria, Box Frites, Pressed by Chef Josh Capon, Pat LaFrieda, Chef Dave Pasternack’s Catch of the Day, Tribeca Grill’s Drew Nieporent, Rao’s Specialty Foods, Two Boots Pizza and more.
NEW 1986 On-Field Throwback Jersey – The Mets will be wearing throwback uniforms during every Sunday home game at Citi Field. Fans can pick up an authentic or replica 1986 throwback jersey at the Mets Team Store. On game days, fans can visit our Jersey Customization Station located outside of the Mets Team Store Presented by Majestic on the Field Level behind home plate.
2015 National League Championship Merchandise – The Mets Team Store will be offering new collectible pins, pennants, banners, and more to commemorate the 2015 National League Championship.
