Up with People Coming To Venice

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The multinational cast of Up with People is headed to Venice FL. Up with People (UWP), which has toured to 65 countries around the world during the last 50-years, has announced that Venice FL will be a stop on their 2015 tour. On Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12 at 7:00 p.m. Up with People will perform public shows at Venice Performing Arts Center in Venice FL. Up with People’s visit is in honor of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry and Martha Jarrett for their impact on UWP and the Venice community. The proceeds from the show ticket sales will benefit the Venice High School Foundation.

While in Venice between September 7 and 14, 2015, Up with People will spend time participating in service projects and live with local host families. Beginning in August, Up with People will be recruiting families to host international cast members during their stay in Venice. The sharing goes both ways…while families share their traditions and local attractions, the cast members share their experiences and cultures. By the end of their five-month world tour, the cast will visit dozens of communities throughout the United States, Europe and Mexico.

The international cast of 100 will also complete more than 1,000 hours of community service reaching out to and supporting many local non-profit organizations. Community members are invited to join the cast to give back to their own communities. Volunteering is not the only way to get involved, if you or someone you know is between the ages of 17 and 29, local youth can apply to travel in future programs. In recent years many Venice natives have traveled the world with Up with People, including Chuck and Cyndi Jarrett, Dennis Peterson, Cecilia Luyao and Venice resident Diana Verhulst, just to name a few!

Best known for their high-energy, upbeat, family-friendly entertainment, the cast of 110 participants representing 21 countries are participating in UWP’s international global education program for young adults. For 50 years, the casts of Up with People have toured the globe performing for millions, including an unprecedented four Super Bowl halftime shows.

The Journey will celebrate the 50th anniversary of Up with People, while acknowledging that UWP’s mission is an ongoing journey, and is as relevant in 2015 as it was in 1965,” explains Up with People Executive Producer Eric Lentz. “The show will feature historical highlights from throughout Up with People’s existence, including pop medleys from the last 5 decades, and a medley of iconic UWP international dances. Original UWP songs will introduce timeless themes, and include messages of hope, movement, peace, and an overriding sense of motivation to go out and make a positive change in the world.” Lentz added.

Up with People’s visit to Venice is sponsored by the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. Venice High School Foundation is the beneficiary of the show.

Bring the World Home – Host an Up with People Cast Member

Families in Venice will have the unique opportunity to bring a bit of the world into their own homes between September 7 and 14 when an international cast of Up with People arrives to Venice, a stop on their 2015 world tour.

Host families are being sought to keep one or more students from Cast B 2015, the 110-member Up with People cast, which represents 21 countries. “It is a great opportunity to experience other cultures while sharing your own,” explained Angel Cancino, Promotion Representative for Up with People.

The opportunity to stay with local families during their time in each community is a centerpiece of Up with People’s 22-week program. The giving goes both ways; while families share their traditions and local attractions, the cast members also share their experiences and cultures.

Local host families are asked to provide a bed, local transportation at the beginning and end of each day, as well as breakfast and most dinners. While gone during the day, participating in regional learning, community service and show preparation, most evenings cast members will be home with the family to participate in their activities and interests.

In addition to many wonderful experiences with their new “son” or “daughter,” each host family will receive two complimentary tickets to the Up with People’s newest production “The Journey.” The show will feature historical highlights from throughout Up with People’s 50-year existence, including

pop medleys from the last 5 decades, and a medley of iconic UWP international dances. Original UWP songs will introduce timeless themes, and include messages of hope, movement, peace, and an overriding sense of motivation to go out and make a positive change in the world.

The show will be held at the Venice Performing Arts Center on Friday and Saturday, September 11 and 12 at 7:00 p.m.

I can honestly say that the dozens of families who have opened their homes to me during my time in Up with People is one of the most meaningful and memorable experiences I have had,” said Angel Cancino, Promotion Representative for Up with People. “I still stay in contact with many of them, and I believe they will remain lifelong friends,” he added.

Those with smaller children or young teens in their home often find that the Up with People cast members are wonderful role models and provide a glimpse into other countries, cultures and traditions they might not often experience in Venice, Cancino added.

Local families in the Venice area are being sought to host the cast members between September 7 to 14, 2015. Those interested in hosting are encouraged to contact Pricela Erives on the Venice Advance Team at [email protected] or by calling (520) 869-6841.
