(Tampa, Fla.) – In honor of National PARK(ing) Day on Friday, September 16, 2016, Uber will transform one parking spot in downtown Tampa, Florida into a mini park for the public to enjoy. National PARK(ing) Day is an annual event where people independently (but simultaneously) “claim” a metered parking spot (by paying the metered rate) and transform the space into a temporary public park or other space to help raise awareness of how parking is one of the most inefficient uses of space in urban areas.
Uber is also encouraging residents across Florida to participate in this campaign by claiming a metered spot (legally) for their own. No “park” is too small.
Friday, September, 16, 2016
11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Parking spot outside of the Chase Bank
Located at the
200 Block of E. Jackson Street
A mini “park” set up with astroturf, games and Uber signage.
The initiative was founded in San Francisco in 2005 with the mission of highlighting just how much city space is allocated to parked cars, and has since expanded to a number of cities around the world. Uber is committed to tackling the parking problem by creating a better alternative to personal car ownership.
Uber is evolving the way Florida moves. By seamlessly connecting riders to drivers through our apps, we make communities more accessible, opening up more possibilities for riders and more business for drivers.
