I found myself reflected in the eyes of others…
An exploration of the past, present, and future through the lens of
the avant-garde
SAN FRANCISCO (August 17, 2017) — On November 17th & 18th, 2017, 8PM Cellista presents Transfigurations at Little Boxes Theater (1661 Tennessee Street, SF, 94107) in San Francisco. Transfigurations follows suit in Cellista’s continual exploration of the past and future from her position rooted in the present. It is a continuation of her work as a dissident artist and represents the tragedy of hope in dark times.
Transfigurations is political performance art directed by Cellista. It features her original sound design that weaves together classical and noise music originally written for the visual artist Barron Storey’s 2013 exhibit entitled Suicide.
Transfigurations is an avant-garde stage poem that defies standard definitions. The evening features choreography and dance performances by Lilith Ransom, the director of Ransom Dance and Lauren Baines, director of Lauren Baines Dance/Theater Company.  Cellista’s Juxtapositions Chamber Ensemble (Alan Chen, Kyle Beard, Naomi Stine, Cellista) performs the thrash metal quartet When the War Began written by Nick Vasallo (Antagone, Oblivion), composer and founder of the extreme metal music genre death core. San Jose musician Chris Pounders (Pounders, Love District) begins the evening with an overture of solo ballads by The Cure.
Transfigurations’ objective is to see the moments of transfiguration that occur every day through the merging of sound, dance, and stillness. Cellista’s Transfigurations is a message of observed wounded-ness; illuminating the commonalities of fragile testimonies often ignored and deemed as other within the community.
This first workshop performance allows both performers and audience to explore various tableaux that are evolving into a full production and album that Cellista will debut in San Jose in 2018.
Transfigurations is political performance art featuring Ransom Dance, Lauren Baines Dance/Theater Company, the Juxtapositions Chamber Ensemble, and Chris Pounders at Little Boxes Theater in SF on November 17th and18th, 2017 at 8PM.
