EVANESCENCE–lead singer-songwriter and pianist AMY LEE, bassist TIM MCCORD, drummer WILL HUNT, lead guitarist/backing vocalist TROY MCLAWHORN and guitarist JEN MAJURA–have delivered SYNTHESIS. Living up to its name, SYNTHESIS is a combination of organic and synthesized sounds, taking a selection of EVANESCENCE’s three previous studio releases along with two new songs–first single “Imperfection” and “Hi-Lo,” which includes a guest performance by famed violinist Lindsey Stirling–and re-imagining them as brand-new recordings. SYNTHESIS is an amalgamation of LEE’s masterful singing and piano playing, supported by her band, a full symphony orchestra performing arrangements by long-time collaborator David Campbell as well as an array of electronic music programming and effects engineered by co-producer Will Hunt–not to be confused with the band’s drummer, of the same name–and mixer Damian Taylor (Björk, The Killers, Arcade Fire) who also collaborated with the band on the album. Listen to “Bring Me To Life” (here).

Below are early critical soundbites for EVANESCENCE’s first singleImperfection“:

“…an emotionally-charged epic that confronts mental illness and suicide head on.”

–Zoe Camp, REVOLVER (9/15/17)

‘Imperfection’ finds Evanescence mixing their dark rock with electronic elements; Lee veers into sprechgesang (sing-speak) territory across the verses. The chorus is pure Evanescence, cinematic and macabre.”

Hayden Manders, NYLON (9/15/2017)

“Opening with a gentle piano melody, ‘Imperfection,’ doesn’t feel all that different, but this quickly changes after just 10 seconds, introducing glitchy, elastic electronic elements that undulate with heaving bassAmy Lee leans on a more pop-oriented delivery with a hushed vocal approach over the verse with just a touch of a hip-hop like swagger.”

–Joe Divita, LOUDWIRE (9/15/17)

“If there’s one thing we particularly enjoy about ‘Imperfection,’ it’s how it’s the perfect mixture of classic Evanescence along with mixing in their new sound and that’s clear within the first thirty seconds of the single. The song begins with the recognizable sound of piano before immediately jumping into a more electronic based sound. The quick pacing of Lee’s voice almost provides a suspenseful feel that’s only relieved when Lee hits those long notes that she can hit so well.”

–Jordan Toney, ALTERNATIVE PRESS (9/15/17)
