YOENIS CESPEDES, NOAH SYNDERGAARD & JEURYS FAMILIA NAMED TO NL ALL-STAR TEAM

FLUSHING, N.Y., July 5, 2016 – Major League Baseball tonight announced that outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, RHP Noah Syndergaard and RHP Jeurys Familia were named to the 2016 National League All-Star team. Cespedes was voted by the fans to start the game on July 12 at San Diego’s Petco Park. Syndergaard and Familia were both elected on the Player Ballots.

Mets Manager Terry Collins will manage the NL squad in the Midsummer Classic. He will take his entire coaching staff to San Diego, including bullpen coach Ricky Bones, first base coach Tom Goodwin, hitting coach Kevin Long, assistant hitting coach Pat Roessler, third base coach Tim Teufel, bench coach Dick Scott and pitching coach Dan Warthen. Mets bullpen catchers Dave Racaniello and Eric Langill will also join the staff in San Diego.

Cespedes was named to his second All-Star team and earned his first starting nod. He was an All-Star in 2014 with Oakland. He is tied for fourth in the NL and ninth in the majors with 20 home runs. The last Mets outfielder to start in the field in an All-Star Game was Carlos Beltran in 2007. Beltran was the starting designated hitter in 2011. He will become the sixth Mets outfielder to start an All-Star Game.

Syndergaard was named to his first All-Star team. He is fifth in the majors with a 2.41 ERA, fifth in the majors with 10.96 strikeouts per nine innings and second in the majors with an 8.20 strikeout-to-walk rate. Syndergaard is the 12th Mets righthanded starting pitcher to make an All-Star team.

Familia was also named to his first All-Star team. He leads the majors with 29 saves and has converted 45 consecutive regular season saves, the sixth-longest streak in major league history. Familia is the seventh Mets reliever to be named to an All-Star squad.

This is the 16th time the Mets have had three or more players named to the NL All-Star team and the first time since 2009 when David Wright, Francisco Rodriguez, Johan Santana and Carlos Beltran were named to the squad.
