Dayton, Ohio—Wyatt Strahan fired six shutout innings and Jonathan Reynoso belted a home run to lead the Dayton Dragons to a 4-3 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts on Saturday night. A crowd of 8,710 attended the game at Fifth Third Field as the Dragons earned their third straight win.

Dayton took a 4-0 lead to the ninth inning before Lansing loaded the bases with two outs against Dragons reliever Jake Ehret. David Harris lined a double to the left field corner to clear the bases and make it 4-3, putting the tying run at second. But Ehret got Chris Carlson to ground out to first base to end the game.

Strahan (6-6) was exceptional, using a three-pitch mix that kept the Lansing hitters off balance. His fastball reached 94 mph, and his sinker and curve were strikeout pitches. He allowed just three hits over his six innings, and only one hit that left the infield. He walked three and struck out five. Strahan has allowed only four runs in his last four starts combined covering 29 innings.

Jeremy Kivel worked the seventh and eighth innings and was also outstanding, using a fastball that was consistently in the 95-96 mph range and topped out at 97. He got three strikeouts on curve balls over his two innings, allowing just one base runner.

The Dragons took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when they loaded the bases with no one out and Gavin LaValley scored on Narciso Crook’s double play grounder. Then in the fifth, Reynoso led off with a long home run to left field that hit a speaker atop the concession building behind the Dragons Lair. Two batters later, Paul Kronenfeld singled to left field to drive in Cory Thompson from second and make it 3-0, and Garrett Boulware added a hit to bring in Luis Gonzalez and extend the lead to 4-0.

The Dragons finished with 11 hits. Reynoso, Boulware, and Jimmy Pickens each had two. Pickens extended his hitting streak to seven straight games.

The Dragons (8-9 in the second half; 47-40 overall) host the Lugnuts (9-8, 51-36) on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Fifth Third Field in the third game of the four-game series. Tejay Antone (4-7, 2.82) will start for the Dragons against Lansing’s Chase Mallard (3-2, 4.82).

All Dragons games are broadcast on radio on Fox Sports 980 WONE and on the internet at wone.com. Games are also available on the Dayton Dragons mobile app.

Notes: The Dragons are 20-2 this season when they score at least four runs in home games…Lansing’s three runs in the ninth kept a streak alive. The Lugnuts are the only Major League or full-season Minor League team (150 teams) that has not been shutout this season.
