Women’s Resource Center in Venice Offers Summer Classes, Workshops and Coaching

A diverse selection of programs offers opportunities to discover new skill sets, learn the fundamentals of finances and family law, meet new people and make meaningful changes.

 

(Sarasota-Manatee, FL) Looking for something to do during the dog days of summer? The Women’s Resource Center in Venice has an exciting lineup of classes and programs to keep you cool and in the know all summer long. Programs include classes and workshops on nutrition, life skills, smart divorce, books and financial management. Group and one-on-one career coaching and counseling are also available. “We invite area women to take the opportunity to enrich themselves this summer,” says Linda Mickelberg, site manager for the Venice Center. “Whether you’re coping with career and life changes, want to learn how to better manage your finances—or simply want to embrace learning with a group of like-minded women, we’re thrilled to welcome you!”

The courses and workshops include:

Gluten-Free/Nutrition (Monday, August 7, and Monday, September 11, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m.; $2): Facilitated by Author Marilu Thornburgh, this workshop teaches women how to live a healthier lifestyle through nutrition and gluten-free recipes.

Book Club (Monday, August 21, and Monday, September 18; 1-3 p.m.; $2):

A monthly book club meeting for those who love to read.

Astrology: Journey to Your Well-Being (Wednesday, September 27, 2-4 p.m.;

$10) Certified astrological consultant, Dianne Eppler Adams, shows how to use astrology on our journey to physical and emotional wellbeing. Provide birth date, place and exact time of birth when you register to receive a copy of your personal chart. Pre-registration is required; call 941-485-9724.

You are Worthy: Learning to Raise Your Own Bar (Thursday, August 17, Thursday, August 31, Thursday, Thursday, September 14, and Thursday, September 28; 6-8 p.m.; $2) Chris Florand and Denise Whalin, M.A., will show how to develop the skills for improved self-confidence, assertiveness, boundary setting and negotiation skills for handling life’s challenges.

Financial Fundamentals (Wednesday, August 23, and Wednesday, September 20, 11 a.m.-noon; $2) A three-part series of financial seminars to help you navigate toward the road to financial success. Led by Julie Light, assistant vice president of Regions Bank. Session 2: Managing Your Money; Session 3: Wise Use of Credit.

Ask an Attorney (Wednesday, August 30 and Wednesday, September 20,

2-5 p.m.; $10) Attorney Brenda Nelms conducts individual 30-minute legal consultation

on family law topics such as divorce, child support, child custody and much more.

Finance + Divorce Workshop (Wednesday, August 30, and Wednesday, September 27, noon-1:30 p.m.; $10.) This workshop will educate you about the financial facts of divorce—planning for now and your long-term success. As a Florida Supreme Court-certified mediator, Freya Robbins is passionate about helping couples unwind the complexities of their situation.

The Smart Spilt (Thursday, August 17, and Thursday, September 21, 3-5 p.m.; $10): This workshop focuses on the Florida legal process for obtaining a divorce and other family law-related matters. The session is facilitated by Attorney Rebecca Rider, who specializes in family and divorce law with more than 20 years’ experience helping clients in Florida.

Employability: (Every Tuesday, 11 a.m.-2 p.m.) Need a new job or looking for a career boost? Join one of our employment classes:

    • Career Coaching: Individual assistance in preparing for a successful job search. Includes resume preparation, interviewing skills and networking techniques.
    • Mentoring: This program is offered to established clients who would benefit from additional support and experience from a qualified mentor.
    • One-on-One Computer Tutoring: Learn your way around an Excel spreadsheet, how to create a new Word document, and how to upload attachments.

Counseling: (Every Thursday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and every Saturday, 9 a.m. – 12 p.m.)  with Dr. Jerry Fennel, psychologist, and Deana Gozder, L.C.S.W. All counseling sessions are $40 individual, $50 couples. Sliding fee scale available ($5-$40).
