Wild World (Virgin Records) – the follow-up to Bastille’s debut album, Bad Blood, which has sold more than four million albums worldwide alongside 11 million singles – will be released on September 9. The new albumretains the vivid, filmic songwriting of its predecessor, but pushes the GRAMMY®-nominated U.K. band’s unique sound in new directions. Lyrically, too, it’s a leap forward. At the heart of Wild World is a fascination with the human condition and the relationships we all forge, fight over and sometimes forget. It’s a collection of 14 songs (19 on the deluxe edition) that sees Bastille at their boldest and most daring. The band revealed the album cover to fans today, adding this note:

At first glance, the striking album cover may prompt a number of questions. Who are the two individuals balanced precariously above a cityscape? Why are they there? What will happen next? But vocalist/songwriterDan Smith’s own interpretation of the image is one that runs through many of the songs on Wild World. “To me, the image isn’t about what’s just happened or what happens next,” he says. “It’s not about how they got there or how they get down. It’s about sharing a moment – two friends existing in that split second in that exact space, two people framed in the vast context of this huge mad metropolis that we’ve all built. They’re there out of choice.”
Fans who pre-order Wild World digitally HERE will instantly receive the album’s first single, “Good Grief.” The track was #1 Most Added across the board at Alternative and Triple A radio in its first week of release in the U.S. and is already trending Top 15 on both charts. It was the #1 Greatest Airplay Gainer last week. “Good Grief” is #15 on the Shazam Future Hits chart in the U.S. and charting on Spotify’s Global, U.S. and U.K. Charts. In the U.K., “Good Grief” was added straight to the Radio 1 A list, charted at No. 1 on Apple Music’s Hot Tracks chart and topped the Shazam chart.
The surrealistic “Good Grief” video, which can be seen

, was named as one of VEVO’s “Hot This Week” clips. Clash Magazine praised it as “wholly imaginative and more than a little outrageous.”

Idolator observed, “Bastille is making a play for the Song of the Summer crown with new single ‘Good Grief’… with [its] bouncy, wistful melody, the track has the potential to easily dominate the pop radio waves in the months to come.” DIY Magazine hailed the track as “Bastille at their most playful and confident…Bonkers voiceovers, almost gospel backing vocals and a chorus to rival even that of ‘Pompeii’ – Bastille are hurtling into their second album with crashing momentum.” The Guardian called it a “great summer festival anthem.”
“Bastille’s set was a masterclass in how to win at Glastonbury,” said NME in this review of the band’s performance at last weekend’s festival. The group will be playing many other festivals this summer, including Lollapalooza. An intimate show at Chicago’s Vic Theatre on July 27 and an evening at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Morrison, CO on October 7 are the first U.S. headline dates to be announced. See below for itinerary.
It’s only been five years since South Londoner Dan Smith started Bastille alone in his bedroom, releasing 300 copies of debut single “Flaws/Icarus.” Joined by Chris Wood (drums), Will Farquarson (guitar) and Kyle Simmons (keyboards), the band line-up was complete. Bastille’s debut album, Bad Blood, contained the 5x Platinum single “Pompeii” and the Gold-certified tracks “Bad Blood” and “Flaws.” “Pompeii” topped Billboard’s Alternative Songs, Hot Rock Songs and Adult Alternative Songs charts and peaked at No. 3 on the Pop Songs chart.
