Venice Theatre holds Education Open House Saturday, Sept. 6
Next round of theatre classes for children, teens and adults begins Sept. 15

(Venice, FL) Venice Theatre’s Education and Outreach Department invites the community to an Open House on Saturday, Sept. 6 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The event will provide assistance with fall theatre class registration and an opportunity to meet some of the teaching team. This semester’s teachers are Brad Wages, VT’s lead teacher; Sandy Davisson, VT’s Director of Education and Outreach; Candace Artim, VT’s Assistant Director of Education and Outreach; Ronald Myroup, VT’s Playwright in Residence; and Becky Holahan, Gladys Varga, Amy Blake, Cara Herman, Peter Ivanov, Geena Ravella, Jan Wallace and Peter Madpak.

For those who might not be able to attend the Open House, registration is already open for Venice Theatre’s fall 2014 theatre classes which include beginning, intermediate and advanced classes for children, teens and adults. Most classes begin the week of Sept. 15, 2014 and run seven to 11 weeks. Prices range from $130 to $285. A limited number of scholarships provided by the Venice Theatre Guild are available for qualified applicants. Offerings this fall include “creative play” for the youngest students in kindergarten through second grade; beginning, intermediate and advanced acting for grades three through eight; and many specialty classesfor children and adults including Musical Motion for grades 3-8, film classes, a tap dancing class for ages 13 through adult to prepare for Mary Poppins auditions, and the popular Getting Technical for students interested in working behind the scenes.Venice Theatre’s Director of Education and Outreach, Sandy Davisson, says, “From continuing to find your actor’s voice, to skill building techniques to getting ready for upcoming auditions and exploring the backstage, these classes will further your creative ability.”

For adult students 18 and older, the theatre is offering some exciting new classes taught by professionals in their fieldsIn Getting to the Heart of the Matter, Candace Artim will guide actors by helping them discover their emotional life through their own stories.  In Working Inside Out, Peter Ivanov will help actors enhance spontaneity and create authentic emotional states using aspects of the Meisner technique.  Another popular offering is Creative Dramatics for Adults with Developmental Challenges whichbuilds confidence and life skills using theatre exercises and acting studies. Gladys Varga has taught this class for several years. Students who enroll in both the fall and spring semesters will participate in the Loveland Follies in June 2015.

Venice Theatre also offers private lessons for students who are interested in one-on-one instruction. Private lessons are customized for individuals who want to advance their acting and/or musical theatre skills.

In addition to the aforementioned seasonal classes, Venice Theatre offers the unique Technical Theatre Apprenticeship Program (TTAP), as well as a customized program for Girl Scout and Boy Scout badges.  The TTAP program is a career-track technical training program for students 16 years and older and is accredited by the Florida Department of Education.
