Tickets on Sale for Piatigorsky International Cello Festival

The USC Thornton School of Music and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, in partnership with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, will present the festival on May 13 through May 22. Tickets are on sale through the USC Ticket Office.

The USC Thornton School of Music and the Los Angeles Philharmonic, in partnership with the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, will present the 2016 Piatigorsky International Cello Festival in May 2016.

Last held in March 2012, the upcoming festival will take place in Los Angeles on May 13 through May 22, 2016.

Individual tickets and ticket packages are now on sale through the University of Southern California Ticket Office or by calling 213-740-4672. Tickets to festival events with the LA Phil may be purchased separately through the Walt Disney Concert Hall Box Office.

“This particular festival is a remarkable expression of music at its ecstatic best,” said artistic director Ralph Kirshbaum.

Showcasing 26 international artists representing 15 countries and four continents, the festival’s roster includes some of the world’s most celebrated cellists including Yo-Yo Ma, Mischa Maisky, Truls Mørk, Jean-Guihen Queyras, David Geringas, Frans Helmerson, Colin Carr, Sol Gabetta, Giovanni Sollima, Raphael Wallfisch and Ralph Kirshbaum, among others.

Named after the great cellist Gregor Piatigorsky, who lived the latter part of his adult life in Los Angeles and taught for many years at USC Thornton, the festival focuses on the art of the cello, its music, and its musicians.

About Gregor Piatigorsky

A Russian-born virtuoso cellist, Gregor Piatigorsky performed worldwide before settling in Los Angeles for the last 16 years of his life. He taught at the USC Thornton School of Music from 1962 until his death.
