Stage III is NOW PLAYING from March 17 – March 29 with I‘m a Stranger Here Myself by Mark Nadler. WWI comes to an end and the German Cabaret rose dark and mysterious in search of freedom featuring artists such as: Kurt Weill, Freidrich Hollaender, Lotte Lenya, and Marlene Deitrich. Don’t miss Don411 is calling “Entertaining and captivating.”
In partnership with The Jewish Federation, join us for a panel discussion on Thursday April 2 from 5:00 pm – 6:15 pm for Dangerous Worlds: Reflections on pre-WWII Germany and the roots of hatred and anti-Semitism today. The Jewish Federation focuses its attention in three main areas: preserving heritage, providing help for those in need, and protecting the people of Israel and other countries around the world. Tying in with these goals, this panel discussion on pre-WWII Germany will highlight the Jewish culture represented and revitalized in Mark Nadler’s I’m a Stranger Here Myself. Admission is free but reservations are required. To reserve your spot, call the Box Office at (941) 366-9000 or by clicking here. Also join the conversation online at fst-blog.com.

Burdick Reading Series

Sarah Young, Patrick A. Jackson, and Jake Mills
in a Burdick Reading Series reading.

Every year at least five hundred plays are read at FST: plays from emerging playwrights, Pulitzer Prize winners; plays from England, New Zealand, and everything in-between. We read these in the hopes of compiling the most powerful, entertaining, and thought-provoking season in contemporary American theatre.
The Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series, named after longtime supporters of the theatre, features three staged readings of new plays. New Play Development is the lifeblood of Florida Studio Theatre. FST’s philosophy of new play development is one that goes beyond the World Premiere. New Play Development seeks to provide a forum for playwrights of all ages to develop plays that can be fruitfully produced.

The Richard and Betty Burdick New Play Reading Series

April 25  @ 2:00pm –  Sans Merci by Johnna Adams

The story of an idealistic young woman who is a crippled survivor of attempted murder by South American revolutionaries. When she is visited by the conservative mother of the other attack victim, the two dance slowly through their grief. Truths are uncovered about what brought these two attached victims together, and why they undertook their humanitarian missions that led to that fateful day.

May 2 @ 2:00pm – Uncanny Valley by Thomas Gibbons

Claire, a neuroscientist, has spent her life building artificial humans and attempting to balance her unstable relationship with her husband. Gibbons creates a touching story about friendship, personal interaction, and what it really means to be “human”.

May 9 @ 2:00pm – The Sparkley Clean Funeral Singers by Lori Fischer & Don Chaffer

Cut to small town America with a quirky country singing duo of sisters. After losing their recording contracts and having nothing left to work toward, they move home to help their father run his dry cleaning business. With a recent rise of deaths in the community, in comes Pastor Phil to request their services as funeral singers. Lori Fischer creates sentimental and comical characters full of perseverance held together by a single thread – life or death.
