Third Eye Blind, one of the most cited and emulated to this new generation of indie bands, has announced additional fall North American appearances on the heels of its recent sold-out summer amphitheater tour. Spanning the month of October, the tour will begin on Thursday, October 8 in Columbia, SC at Music Farm Columbia and take in 15 evenings across select cities in the U.S. including Asheville, NC on Saturday, October 10, Montclair, NJ on Friday, October 16, Memphis, TN on Tuesday, October 20, Louisville, KY on Saturday, October 24, Birmingham, AL on Wednesday, October 28, and culminate in a performance at Track 29 in Chattanooga, TN on Friday, October 30. Additionally, the band recently released their brand new NSFW music video for “Get Me Out Of Here.” Directed by frontman Stephan Jenkins, “Get Me Out Of Here” stars actress Tara Perry (with a cameo appearance by Chris Carrabba of Dashboard Confessional) and is a stylistic nod to the celebrated musical cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year. “I think the idea behind my character being haunted by flashbacks and demonized by the ghost of a girlfriend past is that relationships are kind of a nightmare,” Jenkins said of the video’s concept. “That this coincides with the 40th anniversary of The Rocky Horror Picture Show just feels so lucky as well,” he went on to add. “‘I’m Going Home’ has been our walk-out music every night for years and Tim Curry is a huge influence on me as a performer.” Check out the brand new NSFW music video for “Get Me Out Of Here” HERE.
Third Eye Blind recently issued its first album in six years titled Dopamine (available on iTunes and Amazon) and celebrated its release with a two-month amphitheater tour with supporting act Dashboard Confessional. Songwriter Stephan Jenkins, renowned for his inimitable lyrical sensibility, developed this collection while on tour over the last few years behind the band’s previous number one album, Ursa Major. Though it employs signature guitar riffs, Dopamine is very much an exploration and rumination of the present tense. Jenkins utilizes his characteristic rhythmic vocal style and lyrical prowess on issues of identity, connection, isolation and authenticity while keeping a sharp eye on a culture in rapid change. Paradoxically Third Eye Blind’s focus on guitar and live playing sounds novel and newly fresh in a pop landscape consumed with sequenced drums and keyboard tracks. There is a sense of spontaneity to Dopamine that can only come from their evolution as a live band. What remains constant, however, is the endearing quality in the music and the fierce heartfelt core of Jenkins’ narrative.
Third Eye Blind gained wide success at the end of the recording industry golden age. Their endurance and ability to adapt through the digital revolution speaks to the ingenuity and creativity found in the music.
