“If you’ve never heard two violins in concert before you are in for a wonderful treat,” says Don DeMaio, the coordinator of the concert program at Unitarian Universalist Church. “C.Y. has performed at the church before, both at its services and in concert. Her style is magical and entrances audiences. And these are not pieces you get to hear often, which adds even more enchantment to this recital.”

C.Y. Hong is first violin, fourth chair, with the Sarasota Orchestra. C.Y., as she prefers to be called, graduated from The Juilliard School in New York, where she also received her master’s degree. She had her New York recital debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 1997. As an orchestral player, she has worked with The Florida Orchestra, the Missouri Chamber Orchestra, the Midsummer Mozart Chamber Orchestra in California, the Prometheus Chamber Orchestra in New York City, the National Repertory Orchestra in Colorado, The Curtis Symphony, Kalamazoo Symphony and the Utah Opera Orchestra. In addition to her position with the Sarasota Orchestra she is a member of the Des Moines Metro Opera Orchestra and has been on the adjunct violin faculty at the State College of Florida for six years. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate Degree at The Graduate Center/City University of New York.

Anne Chandra joined the Sarasota Orchestra in 2002. After graduating Summa Cum Laude from the Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music, Chandra went on to earn a master’s degree from Rice University under the tutelage of Kathleen Winkler. She has performed with orchestras throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia, including the Houston Symphony, New World Symphony, Pacific Music Festival Orchestra, and as associate concertmaster of The Tanglewood Music Center Orchestra. Chandra has recently been appointed assistant principal second violin of the Cabrillo Festival Orchestra in California, under the direction of Marin Alsop, where she and her husband spend their summers. She made her Carnegie Hall debut in Weill Recital Hall in 2001 and has performed solo and chamber music throughout the Sarasota area.
