SMHF’s Women & Medicine Luncheon

Empowering Women by offering the latest and greatest information available in oncology care…

SARASOTA, FL-The sold out fourth annual Women & Medicine Luncheon took place on January 15th 2016 at the Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota. The topic of the luncheon this year was Trends and Innovations in Cancer Care. Speakers helped illustrate new trends and treatments while shining a bright light on the importance of healthcare specific philanthropy in the greater Sarasota area and beyond. The room of three hundred plus quieted quickly when the panel began speaking. Along with amazing presentations that each of the 3 doctors (Dr. Alissa, Shulman, Dr. James Fiorica, and Dr. Kenneth Meredith) gave was a new pre luncheon exhibitor showcase that featured a variety of vendors such as: Circuelle Foundation, Health Fit, Ornish Reversal Program at SMH, Saks Fifth Avenue, Sarasota, STAR Program at SMH, and many others who share a passion and in some cases a product that speaks to women’s health.

Co-Chairs Deb Kabinoff and Charlie Ann Syprett announced the launch of the new Women’s Leadership Council, a group that serves as a local “ambassadors” of supporters for the women in our community. These members are dedicated to improving the quality of healthcare for the greater Sarasota community. The Chairs also reiterated their passion for the continued support of research & technology. One of the most powerful take away, is that Sarasota is able to provide the full range of comprehensive cancer care services that we once had to travel long distances to receive. The panel discussed personalized clinical research trials & new chemotherapeutic drugs and reconstruction. Other notables that attended this year were: Margaret Wise, Jim Syprett, Jen Rust, Jane Thompson, Bob and Diane Roskamp, Dr. Fiona Crawford, Fran Blum, Meghan Serrano, Ann Charters, Fran Lambert, Mickey Fine, Bev Bartner, Renee Hamad, Dr. Karen Hamad (Chief of Staff at SMH), Arianne Dart. President, Trustee, and CEO, Alex Quarles said of the event “Today was yet another great educational opportunity for our community about the world class work being done in Healthcare at SMH. In February, thanks to the generosity of the Sarasota Community, the Healthcare Foundation will be celebrating 40 years in healthcare philanthropy. We are deeply grateful to the community for their support for without them many programs such as this would cease to be possible. We are also grateful to the physicians, vendors, and forward thinking hospital leadership who helps make all of this a reality”.

The Foundation would like to thank this year’s Premier Sponsor Synovus Bank and Community Partner, The Roskamp Institute. Other notable sponsors include: Researcher Level Sponsors: Deb Kabinoff and Charlie Ann Syprett, Explorer Sponsor BJ Creighton and Mercedes Medical, and Resident level Fran Blum, Clinical Research Solutions, LLC, Carolyn Keystone, McIntyre, Elwell, & Shammer General Contractors, Inc., Pam Ramhoffer, Flori Roberts, Sovereign Plastic Surgery, Kyla Weiner, and Shumaker, Loop, and Kendrick., LLP.
