THE SECOND CITY RETURNS TO WOOLLY MAMMOTH THIS HOLIDAY SEASON

WITH NOTHING TO LOSE (BUT OUR CHAINS)

FELONIOUS MUNK HEADLINES A NEW SHOW FROM THE CREATORS

OF LAST YEAR’S RUNAWAY HIT, BLACK SIDE OF THE MOON

(Washington, DC) Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company announces the second production of its 2017-2018 season, The Second City Presents Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains). Written by Felonious Munk and directed by Anthony LeBlanc, Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains) will run from November 11 to December 31, 2017.

Felonious Munk is a thought-provoking standup comic, a TV personality, and an all-around good father and man… but he used to be a drug dealer, a convict, and a dangerous-ass mothafucka. Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains) tells the hilarious and harrowing story of how one Black man went from six years in a state prison to a six-figure job in corporate America to a new life as an activist and satirist. Performed by Felonious and a cast of Chicago’s sharpest comedians, the latest installment in the long-running partnership between Woolly and The Second City will combine sketch, stand-up, and music to remind us that true freedom comes only from within.

Since 2009, Woolly Mammoth and The Second City have been bringing laughter and thought-provoking material to Washington D.C. audiences, creating a “second” home for the Chicago-based comedy troupe over the course of eight productions, including Barack Stars, The Wrath of Rahm, A Girl’s Guide to Washington Politics, Spoiler Alert: Everybody Dies, America All Better!!, Let Them Eat Chaos, and last season’s Black Side of the Moon. Throughout the years, Woolly and The Second City have used sharp wit and cutting-edge comedy to explore, expose, and satirize our volatile political and social climate for the people of DC. Last year’s runaway hit Black Side of the Moon used sketch and stand-up comedy to meet a vital historical moment head on, and Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains) will do very much the same.

“Some of The Second City’s most innovative work has happened right here at Woolly,” says Woolly Mammoth Artistic Director Howard Shalwitz, “and Nothing to Lose charts yet another new path, building an extended narrative around the life of one provocative comedian, Felonious Monk. His surprising story—told with a little help from his friends—is not merely funny, but an energizing reminder of the freedom that comes from seeking an authentic life.”

Felonious Munk stars as himself. He is joined by an ensemble of comedy troupe members: Angela Alise, McKenzie Chinn; Calvin Evans, and Odinaka Ezeokoli. Alise returns to the Woolly stage for the second time, having previously appeared in The Second City’s Black Side of the Moon. Chinn is an accomplished actor and poet who has worked with theaters across Chicago and recently released an album with the Growing Concerns Poetry Collective, “WE HERE: Thank You for Noticing.” Evans is an actor and writer based in Chicago who is known for his recent television credits on Chicago PD, Shameless, and the new Fox series, APB. Ezeokoli can be seen on the acclaimed Netflix series Easy (2018) and in two episodes of the Emmy-nominated web series Brown Girls on Open TV.

Anthony LeBlanc, Associate Artistic Director of The Second City Training Center in Chicago, joins Woolly to direct Nothing to Lose (But Our Chains). Improv expert Mick Napier, founder and Artistic Director of the acclaimed Annoyance Theatre, joins the creative team as a consultant. The remaining members of the production team include Woolly Company Member Colin K. Bills (lighting and set design); Robert Croghan (costume design); Jesse Case (sound design and original music), and Jaci Entwisle (stage manager).
