PHILADELPHIA— July 19, 2016—The Curtis Institute of Music, in collaboration with the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival, has received a $30,000 grant from the National Endowment for the Arts as part of the “Imagine Your Parks” initiative to use the arts to engage people with memorable places and landscapes of the National Park System.

The grant supports in part the commissioning of a new work inspired by the Cape Cod National Seashore, written by Jonathan Bailey Holland (Composition ’96), and the touring of that work with Curtis on Tour in New England and Harrisburg. The commission also celebrates 50 years of the National Endowment for the Arts and 100 years of the National Park Service.

A Philadelphia preview of the Curtis on Tour program, including Mr. Holland’s String Quartet No. 2 (“Forged Sanctuaries”), takes place in Field Concert Hall at Curtis on July 21; admission is free and no tickets are required. New England performances follow at the Marine Biological Laboratory in Woods Hole, Mass. (July 24); the Cape Cod Chamber Music Festival in Wellfleet, Mass. (July 29); and at the Nantucket Atheneum in Nantucket, Mass. (July 31). A special performance will also take place at the location which inspired the work, at the Cape Cod National Seashore’s Salt Pond Visitor Center in Eastham, Mass. on July 28. Mr. Holland will speak and excerpts of the work will be performed.

Curtis on Tour is the Nina von Maltzahn global touring initiative of the Curtis Institute of Music. Performers for the New England tour include Meng-Chieh Liu (’93), acclaimed soloist, chamber musician, and member of the Curtis piano faculty, and Curtis students Kevin Lin, violin; Laura Park, violin (’16); Yoshihiko Nakano, viola (’15); and Youna Choi, cello (’16). The touring project began with a three-concert residency with Market Square Concerts in Harrisburg, Pa. July 15-18.
