Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra Welcomes Two New Musicians: Principal Trumpet, Bass Trombone

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra announces two appointments to the roster beginning in the 2016-2017 season. Conrad Jones will serve as principal trumpet and Riley Giampaolo will play bass trombone.

The 27-year-old Jones most recently spent the summer season with the San Francisco Opera and performed throughout the 2015-2016 Season with the San Francisco Ballet Orchestra.

Prior to these engagements, Jones had been principal trumpet for the Tucson Symphony Orchestra since 2013 and served as 3rd trumpet for the organization while attending the Colburn School Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles. A native of Long Island, N.Y., Jones holds a Bachelor of Music degree in trumpet performance from the Cleveland Institute of Music.

Recognized as both a jazz and classical soloist, Jones is a winner of the 2008 Yamaha Young Performing Artist Award, a two-time winner of the Tuesday Musical Association Solo Competition, and won the 2011 Pasadena Showcase House Instrumental Competition. Jones has made numerous guest appearances with orchestras across the country. He performed as guest principal trumpet with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra in 2015 and twice this year.

Jones is a founding member of the Kyōdai Brass Quintet, a group started in Cleveland with his two younger brothers in 2009. Kyōdai has had residencies with the Detroit Chamber Music Society and the Cleveland Chamber Music Society and was awarded the Aspen Music Festival Brass Quintet Fellowship in 2013.

Riley J. Giampaolo, Bass Trombone
Originally from Mission Viejo, Calif., Giampaolo is 20 years old and currently resides in Boston, Mass., where he attends The New England Conservatory and has performed in the student-run Tuesday Night New Music concert series. Giampaolo is expected to graduate from the school with a Bachelor of Music degree in 2018.

Giampaolo played bass trombone at the Schleswig-Holstein Musik Festival in Germany and was a Low Brass Teacher at Tom Cox Intermediate School in Spring, Texas. A graduate of Oak Ridge High School in Texas, Giampaolo won the George Roberts Bass Trombone Competition in 2013 and was named to the National Youth Orchestra of the USA in 2014.
