THE CIDER PRESS CAFÉ DEBUTS PRIDE ART SHOW, FEATURING CELEBRATED LGBT ARTISTS

Artists Include Chris Sullivan, John Gascot, Teresa Schnetzka, Barry Rothstein and Others

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (May 25, 2016) – Local LGBT business owners, Johan Everstijn and Roland Strobel, are celebrating Pride Month at their downtown restaurant, The Cider Press Café. They will debut their Pride Art Show – a gallery show featuring local LGBT artists – on Saturday, June 4 from 6 p.m. – 10 p.m., and the gallery will be available for viewing until June 30. The evening will include light hors d’oeuvres and happy hour specials on drinks.

“The talent of these artists is undeniable, and we are honored to be featuring their work in our first Pride Art Show,” said Everstijn, co-owner and executive chef at The Cider Press Café. “June is a very exciting month for us, and we couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than with a gallery that showcases the talent of our local LGBT artists.”

The gallery will feature the following artists:

  • Chris Sullivan – Sullivan is an American modern abstract artist from the coastal region of Texas. The influence of his upbringing on the coast, coupled with the intense study of art as a young child and man, have translated into his oil painting expressions.
  • David Rule – Rule currently lives in Treasure Island, Florida with his partner. He has created work that has been shown and sold at various shows. A common finding in Rule’s art is a bold use of color and black and white.
  • John Gascot – Gascot spent the first twelve years of his life in Puerto Rico, a fact to which he attributes his love of bold color. He coined the term, “Latin Pop Art” after multiple unsuccessful attempts at categorizing his work in traditional genres. Gascot’s work is in various collections across the United States and Europe.
  • Teresa Schnetzka – Schnetzka was a colorist and designer for 28 years before she moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida in 2006, where she took a hiatus from the commercial design world, though she never stopped creating art. She currently lives in Clearwater, Florida, where her work has been exhibited in various art shows. Acrylic and texture on canvas are her favorite mediums, though she also works in oils, pen and ink.
  • Barry Rothstein – Rothstein moved to St. Petersburg, Florida 26 years ago from New York City. He studied drawing, art, illustration and design at various universities in New York, including The Fashion Institute of Technology. The Pastel Society of Tampa Bay honored his latest work –Vegas Sky – with a Merit Award.

The Cider Press Café, which specializes in plant-based modernist cuisine, is kicking off Pride Week with the Pride Art Show on June 4, followed by participation in Tampa Bay Restaurant Week with a three-course prix fixe menu, and ending with a Big Pride Brunch on June 26 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
