Canton Symphony Chorus Announces Auditions for its New Season

CANTON, OH (July 7, 2015) – The Canton Symphony Chorus will be holding auditions for the 2015-2016 season at the Birk Center for the Arts on Walsh University campus on August 9th, and 16th from 1:00-5 p.m.  The Canton Symphony Chorus is under the direction of Dr. Britt Cooper, Director of Fine and Performing Arts and Director of Choral Activities at Walsh University.

The Canton Symphony Chorus, founded in 1984, is a volunteer adult ensemble.  The Chorus rehearses weekly from September through April at Birk Center for the Arts. The ensemble performs major choral works with the Canton Symphony Orchestra (CSO) and its music director Gerhardt Zimmermann.  This season’s performances will include a men’s chorus on Franz Liszt’s Mephistofeles on the CSO’s MasterWorks concert November 1, holiday favorites during the Holiday Pops concert in December, a chorus-only concert on March 4, 2016, and Lauridsen’s Lux Aeterna and Borodin’s Polovtsian Dances on the CSO’s season finale concert April 23, 2016 with Dr. Britt Cooper conducting.

New members into the chorus are required to audition, and singers from all backgrounds and levels of experience are encouraged to audition. Singers may, but are not required, to bring a prepared classical piece to their audition. Anyone auditioning should expect to be vocalized for range and should be prepared to sing through several pitch memory and sight-singing drills. To schedule an audition time, call the Canton Symphony Orchestra Office at 330-452-2094.  Additional information is available online at www.cantonsymphony.org/people/chorus-auditions.
