Amarillo Youth Orchestra Auditions Scheduled

AMARILLO, TEXAS – (August 18, 2014) – The Amarillo Symphony announces the return of the Amarillo Youth Orchestra program with three of the four ensembles auditions scheduled from 4 – 7 p.m. on September 4and from 9 a.m. to noon on September 6. Auditions will be held at Amarillo College Washington Street campus Music Building.

Students interested in the Amarillo Youth Sinfonia, Philharmonic or Youth Symphony can register online at www.amarillosymphony.org and download music and requirements. Contact Irma Borup, education coordinator of the symphony, at 806-376-8782 to schedule an audition. Preparatory Strings students are only required to register.

Rehearsals for the Youth Symphony and Youth Philharmonic will be held weekly at Amarillo College’s Washington Street campus in the Music Building on Sunday’s from 2:00pm to 4:30pm. Weekly rehearsals for the Youth Preparatory Strings and Youth Sinfonia will be on Monday’s from 4:30pm to 6:15pm in the same location.

The youth program announces new conductors Danica Ahedo, Amarillo Youth Preparatory Strings, Fabian Saldaña, Youth Philharmonic and Nick Lopez, Amarillo Youth Symphony. Jill Bradford returns as conductor of the Amarillo Youth Sinfonia.

Ahedo is a graduate of Texas Tech University and is the director of orchestral activities at Caprock High School. Saldaña, also a Texas Tech graduate, heads orchestral activities at Bowie Middle School. Lopez, another graduate of Texas Tech, serves as director of the orchestra program at Amarillo High School. Bradford directs orchestra at Austin Middle School and is a graduate of West Texas A&M University.

“The Amarillo Youth Orchestra program is gearing up for an exciting new season,” said Borup. “We are welcoming some enthusiastic members to our AYO family, and our staff is working diligently to make our program even more accessible. Our mission is to provide a unique, performance- based orchestral experience for the youth of Amarillo and the Panhandle.”
