TEXAS RANGERS TO OPEN 2016 SEASON WITH SEATTLE ON MONDAY, APRIL 4

Rangers will host Brewers, Pirates, Reds, and Rockies in interleague play

Arlington, Texas – The Texas Rangers will host the Seattle Mariners in the club’s 2016 season opener on Monday, April 4. The complete 2016 schedule was announced today by Major League Baseball.

This will mark the 25th time in 45 seasons that the Rangers have opened at home, the sixth in the last eight years. It will be the third occasion on which the Rangers have opened with the Mariners, winning at the Kingdome in 1992 and losing at Safeco Field in 2008.

The Rangers will also host Seattle on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 5-6 before going on the road for a four-game series at the Los Angeles Angels and a three-game in Seattle. The club returns to Arlington for its first extended homestand of 2016, a seven-game stand with Baltimore (April 14-17) and Houston (April 19-21).

With 15 teams in each league, interleague play will take place throughout the entire regular season for the fourth straight year. Clubs will again play 19 games against division opponents (76 total games) and either six or seven contests vs. non-divisional league opponents in home and home series (66 total games). Each club will also play 20 interleague games (10 home/10 road), with the Rangers facing Colorado and the five N.L. Central clubs in 2016.

Texas will play 19 times each versus A.L. West Division foes Houston, Los Angeles, Oakland, and Seattle. In interleague play, the Rangers will have two-game home and home series with the Cincinnati Reds and Colorado Rockies. Texas rounds out its interleague schedule by hosting the Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh Pirates for three games each and traveling to the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals for three-game series.

The 2016 home schedule also features four-game series with the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals, and Minnesota Twins. The club also plays its final six games of the regular season at Globe Life Park in Arlington, hosting the Milwaukee Brewers (Sept. 26-28) and Tampa Bay Rays (Sept. 30-Oct. 2) for three games each.

Game times for the 2016 schedule will be announced at a later date. The complete schedule is attached.
