Rangers to hold second annual free clinic for area youth baseball coaches on January 24

 

Arlington, TX – The Texas Rangers today announced that former major leaguer Homer Bush has been appointed to the club’s new position of Director, Youth Baseball Programs.

 

Bush will oversee the Rangers youth camps and clinics programs as well as the club’s Junior and Senior RBI efforts in Arlington, Dallas, Fort Worth, and Lancaster. He will also serve as the team’s liaison and contact for the construction and initial development of the Texas Rangers MLB Urban Youth Academy in West Dallas. Work on the new state-of-the-art facility, a joint project between the Rangers, Major League Baseball, the Major League Baseball Players Association, and Dallas-based Mercy Street, is expected to begin in the first quarter of 2016.

 

A .285 career hitter in 409 major league games with the Yankees (1997-98; 2004), Blue Jays (1999-2002), and Marlins (2002), Bush is an experienced youth coach. He has conducted youth baseball clinics for the Toronto Blue Jays, worked events for the MLB/USA Baseball Breakthrough Series, and is currently coaches youngsters in the Southlake area. He is the author of the book, Hitting in the Zone. Bush will begin his duties with the Rangers in January.

 

The Rangers Assistant for Community Outreach/Youth Ballpark Lauren Parker has been promoted to Assistant Director, Youth Baseball Programs and Community Outreach.

 

TEXAS RANGERS TO CONDUCT FREE CLINIC

FOR AREA YOUTH BASEBALL COACHES

Major league coaching staff to participate in January 24 clinic at Globe Life Park in Arlington

 

The Rangers will conduct their second annual clinic for area youth baseball coaches on Sunday, January 24 at Globe Life Park in Arlington.

 

Members of the Rangers major league coaching staff will be among the instructors in the classroom-style clinic, which is open to youth baseball coaches at no charge on a first come, first served basis.

 

Registration is limited and begins today, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 17 at texasrangers.com/camps.

 

The Coaches Clinic will include instruction on pitching mechanics, baseball philosophies, planning a practice, and hitting. Participants will also receive breakfast and lunch and a Rangers’ goodie bag.

 

The Rangers Hall of Fame will serve as the location for the Coaches Clinic with doors opening at 8:00 a.m. on January 24. Instruction will begin at 8:30 a.m., and the clinic is expected to conclude around 2:00 p.m.

 

The clinic is presented by the Texas Rangers and Texas Rangers Baseball Foundation as part of the ongoing commitment to support youth baseball and softball in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and throughout the Southwest.
