Big Times in Little Haiti
Where can you lay back and gaze up at a magnified image of your own eye, while jamming out to the sounds of Baio (you know, from that little band called Vampire Weekend) or Afrobeta surrounded by a glimmering chandelier of light and gem-covered human forms? If we told you it was in Little Haiti, would you believe us? Well, for five nights during Miami Art Week 2015, Superfine! House of Art & Design is taking over The Citadel building in Little Haiti and making your wildest dreams come true. A five day interactive ode to the eroding boundary between art and design, with a backbone of top-notch indie music talent, Superfine! House of Art & Design is the brainchild of New York-based creative collective FAME. Erupting in 15,000 square feet of raw space from December 2-6, the Miami iteration of Superfine! brings together fresh visual art and inspired design from Miami, New York, and around the globe for an experiential showcase that brings aesthetic to the forefront. International musical acts including Baio, Aeroplane, and electropop wunderkind Shamir (first public Miami performance!) take the stage alongside Miami favorites like Afrobeta, Krisp, and the darlings of IIIPoints – Bedside, all beneath the glow of the dazzling 3000 square foot “Ascend With You” immersive hanging sculpture of light beams and sparkling bodies ascending to the mothership by Little Haiti-bred artist Diego Montoya. Attendees will also be able to experience the interactive Eyeselfie piece by Vancouver-based tech artist/inventor/intrapreneur Leigh Christie, in which attendees lay back and are confronted by a massive magnification of their own eye projected in high definition on the ceiling. This is not one to miss, folks.
