SARASOTA, FL: Three police officers, a fake cowboy with a real guitar, a gun in nervous hands…. These are a few elements in  “Let Me Call You Sweetheart,” four short, zany comedies about love presented by Starlite Players this week. The plays run Thursday through Saturday, April 21-22-23, at 7:30 p.m. and on Sunday, April 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the casual, intimate theater upstairs at The Starlite Room, 1001 Cocoanut Avenue. The four plays, with their casts, are:

Guaranteed by James McLindon. Director: Mark Woodland. An inept robber (Brannon Westfall) tries to hold up a bank, not expecting a  teller (Cindy Schlotterback) who can’t wait to share what she’s learning in law school, and a drunken cop (Daniel Greene). Instead of cash, the robber gets a lesson in law and love.

The Hetero Chorus Boy by Jack Gilhooley. Director: Kathy Junkins. Sean (Logan Junkins) is a straight—although closeted–Broadway chorus boy but waitress Roxy (Rachel Knowles) may “out” him. In addition, his best friend Deana (Amanda Heisey) wants more than a platonic relationship. Sean reveals his straightness, never expecting a controversy with world-wide repercussions.

Co-Dependents by Jack Gilhooley & Jo Morello. Director: Mark Woodland. Starlite audiences may have met husband-and-wife playwrights Charlie (Joseph Giglia) and Marie (Andrea Keddell) in the January play “Connubial Bliss.” Now, struggling with a failing career and separated in their faltering marriage, each gets a bitter taste of the single life in encounters with a fake cowboy (Daniel Greene) and a real cop (Heather Forte).

The Naked Truth by Tom Sivak. Director: Jenny Aldrich Walker. Georgie (Amanda Heisey), her boyfriend (Logan Junkins) and a policewoman (Cindy Schlotterback) may not know it but the first rule of Improvisational Theater is “Never say no.” One never knows where this may lead, but our MC (Scott Vitale) knows what he’s looking for: The Naked Truth.

Starlite Players stages an evening of short, unpublished comedies for one weekend each month and has produced 29 plays since its debut in July 2015. Its focus is on theater professionals from the Tampa Bay area. Tickets at $17.50 include the four plays and a 15% discount on an optional pre- or post-show dinner at The Starlite Room. For show tickets and information: www.starliteplayers.com, [email protected], and 941.587.8290 (1 p.m. to 5 p.m.)  Also see the Starlite Players Facebook page. For dinner reservations: 941.702.5613.
