Sports, science, and spirit take over the Museum of Science & Industry as the MOSI Summer Games begin July 16
Get hands-on with the events that will captivate the world in Rio this summer and discover the science behind the sports you love.

Tampa, Florida – As the world’s greatest athletes prepare to compete, MOSI is sharing the sporting spirit of Rio and inviting guests to take on fun indoor versions of their favorite events every day for a limited time starting July 16 in the MOSI Summer Games.

With eleven events like indoor archery, tests of speed and reaction time, and exercises for your most powerful body part – your brain – you’ll be a part of a worldwide athletic experience!

All of MOSI will transform into the Olympicene Village (Olympicene – pronounced “Olympi-seen” – is a real molecule that looks like those famous five rings). As you explore the 450 hands-on exhibits in MOSI’s scientific playground, you’ll discover added extras that show you the science behind the sports and the spectacle of the Summer Games in Rio.

Why does a soccer shot “bend” into the back of the net? What sport uses 3D printed helmets to get the perfect fit? And how will driverless cars like the one that takes guests on rides at MOSI transform the Summer Games of the future?

“We’re inviting families to come join ‘Team MOSI’ as we celebrate the Summer Games and challenge families to work together and experience MOSI like never before,” MOSI President and CEO Molly Demeulenaere said. “You’ll need to work together to go for the gold – or, because this is MOSI – to go for the californium.”

Californium is the most valuable metal on earth, worth 600,000 times more than gold! Kids who complete a MOSI Mission to challenge their bodies and minds through several events get a medal made of simulated californium to take home.

Also new this summer, pay for a day and get the rest of the year free with MOSI’s Discovery Passport! Guests who purchase regularly priced MOSI general admission will get a new Discovery Passport, giving them free unlimited admission to MOSI through the end of 2016.*

“If you’ve been thinking about coming to MOSI, now’s the time!” Demeulenaere said. “Play in the MOSI Summer Games, and then come back this fall to touch the future in MOSI’s major new exhibit, and see two new IMAX® movies opening later this year – all for one low price.”

*MOSI’s Discovery Passport is available for the normal full ticket price of $26.95 for adults, $25.95 for seniors (60+), and $20.95 for children (3-12). No other discounts will apply. Not valid for free admission on Sept. 3-5, Nov. 24-27, and Dec. 26-31. The Discovery Passport is different from a MOSI membership and does not offer any of MOSI’s member benefits; guests should visit the MOSI ticket office or MOSI.ORG for more details.

MOSI, the Museum of Science & Industry, is Tampa Bay’s community-supported science center. At MOSI, people of all ages (this means you!) can see and do amazing things every day. Ride in the only driverless car open to the public in North America, witness the future in 3D Printing: The Exhibition, experience an immersive film in the Florida Hospital IMAX® DOME Theatre, see the stars in the Saunders Planetarium, have a blast in our Kids In Charge children’s science center, wonder at nature in our BioWorks Butterfly Garden, and defy gravity on our Sky Trail® Ropes Course and Zip Line. MOSI (we pronounce it MOH’-zee) is the largest science center in the Southeast, and a not-for-profit magnet for innovation in STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) education where we make a difference in people’s lives by making science real for people of all ages and backgrounds.
