The Southwest Florida Museum of History is hosting a one-hour presentation by historian Jim Powers that delves into Fort Myers’ fascinating evolution from the Civil War to cattle rustling, moonshining and beyond. Including both a Q&A and a museum tour, the lecture costs just $10 for adults and $5 for students.

Research historian Jim Powers provides a monthly history presentation November through March. This is the last one of the season, so mark your calendar for 7 p.m. on Friday, March 28.

The museum is housed in the former Atlantic Coastline Railroad depot at 2031 Jackson Street, one block south of Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Paleo Indians, the Calusa, Seminoles, Spanish explorers and early settlers are just a few of the people you will meet as you view the Museum’s exhibits.An authentic replica of a pioneer “cracker” house, a 1926 La France fire pumper, and a 1929 private Pullman rail car are also part of the tour.

In addition, the museum also houses an extensive artifacts collection detailing early civilization, the Fort, the first settlers, the cattlemen, turn of the century, the military and agriculture, boating and fishing industries in Fort Myers are highlighted as well as a display of 1,200 pieces of depression and carnival glass.
