Season Announced and Registration Open for Fairfield University’s Open VISIONS Forum and Open MINDS Institute

Broaden your perspective with an engrossing fall lecture or expand your worldview with an enriching 5-week seminar at the Quick Center for the Arts.

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (Aug. 23, 2018) The Regina A. Quick Center for the Arts at Fairfield University has announced a rich slate of global thinkers, trendsetters, and thought leaders for its 2018-19 Open VISIONS Forum.

Leading the lineup of notable celebrities and public advocates scheduled to speak at the Quick are two-time Academy Award-winner and social activist Jane Fonda on September 27, best-selling author of Moneyball and The Blind Side Michael Lewis on October 10, and outspoken defender of the U.S. Constitution Khzir Khanon November 14.

Now in its 22nd season, the Open VISIONS Forum – Fairfield University’s signature public affairs lecture series – has become catalyst for community-wide conversations about a spectrum of front page news topics and cultural trends. The Forum welcomes area residents to the Quick’s Kelley Auditorium for lively and open dialogue centered around the great issues facing our nation’s future.

“Recognizing our audience’s unyielding thirst for educational and cultural enrichment, we’ve expanded Forum programs to include interactive ‘Espresso’ conversations, as well Open MINDS Institute seminars,” notes Philip Eliasoph, PhD, founding director of both the Forum and these spin-off education programs.

Sponsored by the law firm of Cohen and Wolf, the Open VISIONS Forum’s Espresso talks take place in the Quick’s more intimate Wien Experimental Theatre. Television pundit Margaret Hoover, host of the reboot of Firing Lineon PBS, will kick off the Espresso series on October 3 with “A New Generation of Conservatives.” On October 30, Barry Barnes, PhD, author of Everything I Wanted to Know About Business I Learned From the Grateful Dead, will offer innovative business lessons learned from the iconic rock band. Later in 2019, Espresso conversations will cover everything from the state of conservative politics today, to the mental health of at-risk Connecticut youth, to the early shaping of Adolf Hitler’s political persona.

“Our sophisticated community of keenly aware listeners has demonstrated its amazing capacity for this dynamic, lifelong learning model,” Dr. Eliasoph enthuses. For information and lecture tickets, visit www.quickcenter.com and select the “lectures” genre under the “upcoming events” tab.
