Sarasota Concert Association’s popular free noontime concert series launches its 2016-17 season with a performance by two nationally acclaimed artists.

(Sarasota, Florida) Sarasota Concert Association’s Music Matinee Series opens its 2016-17 season with performances by soprano Hein Jung and pianist Grigorios Zamparas performing works by Handel, Liszt, Rachmaninoff and Bellini, November 9 at Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center, 709 N. Tamiami Trail, Sarasota. The duo will also perform two additional concerts: November 11 at Living Lord Lutheran Church, 11107 Palmbrush Trail in Lakewood Ranch; and November 15 at Venice Presbyterian Church, 825 The Rialto, Venice. The concerts are at noon and free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations are accepted. Music Matinees are supported by the John J. Weiss Memorial Fund of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. For more information, visit www.scasarasota.org.

The Music Matinee Series (formerly called Munchtime Musicales) is Sarasota Concert Association’s long-running, community outreach program presenting regionally based, accomplished musicians who represent a vast array of musical styles, including classical, folk, jazz and pop. The series is coordinated by Sylvia Eckes, a SCA board member.

“It’s rewarding to have the opportunity to support the outstanding musicians who live and work in our region—and to offer their performances at no cost to the community,” says Eckes. “We’re delighted to open our season with multiple performances at new venues in Lakewood Ranch and Venice.”

Acclaimed for her “superior vocal value” (Boston Globe), soprano Hein Jung has performed in major cities throughout the U.S. and abroad and was selected as a fellow in the prestigious Tanglewood and San Francisco Opera Merola programs. In 2016, she made her debut with the Florida Orchestra and has performed with the Madison Opera, the Bel Canto Chorus, the Racine-Kenosha Symphony, and the Milwaukee Symphony. Her recording of “Songs of Franz Liszt,” released by Centaur Records last year, was critically acclaimed. Jung is on the music faculty at the University of Tampa.

Pianist Grigorios Zamparas has received critical acclaim for “spinning his piano magic” throughout the course of a versatile career that has seen him perform as a recitalist, orchestra soloist and chamber musician in such locales as his native Greece, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Russia, Latin America, South Korea and the U.S. He is a frequent guest performer at numerous festivals worldwide, including the Newport Music Festival in Newport, Rhode Island, the Mainly Mozart Festival in Miami, Florida, the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota and the Salon of the Arts Sofia in Bulgaria. Zamparas is on the music faculty at the University of Tampa.

The 2016-17 Music Matinees concert season continues with trumpeter, Aaron Romm and his mother and Steinway artist Avis Romm, piano, performing with her (December 21 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); Studio Artists from the Sarasota Opera, Sarasota’s ambassadors of opera who bring the art form to stages beyond the walls of the Opera House (January 18 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); the Lyric Duo, featuring Alison Brown Sincoff, flute and piccolo, and Gail Berenson, piano (February 15 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); Sarasota Orchestra violinists Christopher Takeda and Jennifer Best Takeda (March 22 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center); and the swinging big band sounds of the Suncoast Jazz Ambassadors (April 19 at the Beatrice Friedman Symphony Center).

All Music Matinee performances are at noon. All concerts are free and open to the public. Seating is open; no reservations accepted. For more information about Music Matinees, email Sylvia Eckes at [email protected] or visit www.scasarasota.org.
